Why I Cheer the Whole Foods Boycott: Poetic Justice for Pan-Terrorist, Israel-Hating Retailer

By Debbie Schlussel

The usual cadre of ignorant prominent conservatives is urging us to support of Whole Foods because left-wingers are boycotting the overpriced gourmet food chain since CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed against ObamaCare in the Wall Street Journal.  Sorry, but I have no sympathy for the guy.  What goes around in his store’s behavior, comes around, even in organics.

An-Najah University Stages Re-enactments

Glorifying Sbarro Pizza Homicide Bombing

The “conservatives” who support Whole Foods are the same ones who look the other way in other areas when someone they like on some issues is a jihad-enabler.  You know who they are.  They’re the same ones who praised Jew-hating HAMASnik Robert Novak, promote Jihad Darrell a/k/a Darrell Issa (Hezbollah’s favorite Congressman), and lamented Sami Al-Arian/Islamic terrorist buddy Henry Hyde, because a conservative’s pan-jihadism can be overlooked in a convenient dose of double standards and hypocrisy. They’re group–not critical–“thinkers.”

But, unlike them, I look beneath the surface of silly, shallow talking points and principle-free partisan knee-jerking.  And I’m not upset that Whole Foods is being boycotted.  In fact, I love it.  It’s a great episode in poetic justice for a store chain that helps fund and promote jihad and anti-Semitic/anti-Israel radio programming.  And now they’re getting what they deserve . . . from their own crazy ideologues.

Yes, John Mackey and his store are now getting a taste of their own medicine–the very orthodoxy they practice against Israel is now being practiced against him.

A story I broke on this site documents how Whole Foods refuses to carry Israeli olive oil.  I documented how the store has, instead, chosen to carry, vigorously promote, and subsidize Palestinian olive oil made by extremists who support Islamic terrorism.  The olive oil, Canaan Fair Trade olive oil, sends its profits to fund scholarships at An-Najah University (and even worse “schools”), where the majority of the student body is in HAMAS and recruits for HAMAS, and where official school displays glorify the homicide bombing of innocent civilians at Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem, and mock its blown-up victims.

Canaan Fair Trade also subsidizes the anti-Israel, anti-American Rachel Corrie Foundation, honoring a pan-Islamist whore who committed suicide (standing in front of a bulldozer) for her Palestinian buddies, after she took photos of herself smilingly burning the American flag for her Palestinian friends.

And Whole Foods isn’t just selling their stuff, it’s gone out of its way to send out press releases and talking points supporting this business of terror-shills in a way it never does for any other product or company.  That’s because Whole Foods has made the deceptively-named Canaan Fair Trade outfit a special project for promotion. Why?

Watch this video found by Shawarma Mayor, showing An-Najah University-funded displays mocking the victims of the Sbarro Pizza homicide bombing in Jerusalem, where 15 innocent people were murdered and countless others seriously maimed. Watch how they step on the American flag to enter the “exhibit” and how they have pictures of their heroes, including Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, adorning the walls of this university.

When you shop at Whole Foods, you fund this:

Then, there is Whole Foods’ sponsorship of anti-Israel, anti-Semitic “Radio “Intifada” programming on a West Coast radio station, KPFK. After repeated requests by many, Whole Foods refuses to drop its sponsorship and donations to this programming, despite the fact that rival Trader Joe has ceased its relationship. Some of “Radio Intifada’s” and KPFK’s fundraising materials specifically attack Jews. But that didn’t stop Whole Foods from donating to them. Learn more about this at Join The Boycott (scroll down).

Given all of this, I really don’t care whose health plan Mr. Mackey supports, which is the equivalent of an ant urinating compared to the consistent support his stores have given to enabling Israel-haters.  Because it doesn’t matter what kind of health plan you have when you’re blown to your sudden death by the people Mr. Mackey helps fund by financing scholarships to their campus for recruitment and training and supporting the propaganda put out by the Rachel Corrie worshippers.  In a few weeks, months, or even a year, ObamaCare will have come and gone or have been voted upon.  But Whole Foods will still likely be carrying terrorism olive oil and funding Jew-hatred radio shows.  That some guy wrote an article you liked once won’t change that.  And shopping there won’t change whether or not ObamaCare is defeated, but it will help fund Islamic terrorism and Jew-hatred.

So I recommend that you not shop at Whole Foods.  I used to be a good customer of the store.  As an observant Jew, it’s customary to buy extra special foods and fruits for the Jewish Sabbath, and I used to get them there.  But since I learned, in late March, of Whole Foods’ hatred of Israel and the Jews, I haven’t set foot there.  They will never again get a penny of my money.

To me, the Whole Foods boycott by its typical patrons on the left is just desserts.

Organic just desserts.

Purified artesian mineral water crocodile tears from me for John Mackey and Whole Foods.

Since i cannot comment on your “Dirty Basterds” review for some reason…all of a sudden BRAD PITT is cool?

Remember “Babel”???

ER: Um, if you bothered to read my review, I wrote that I don’t like Brad Pitt, and that he’s not the real star of the movie. DS

Also, the Organics movement has more recently been exposed as something of a scam to sell overpriced produce, meat, and dairy products as something better nutritionally. Finally, the proof, which in the past came in as a trickle, is now a Niagra Falls that cannot be ignored: http://www.reuters.com/article/scienceNews/idUSTRE56S3ZJ20090730

I was happy to see that my local Whole Foods in Irvine, Ca, had none of the Palestinian olive oil, but did have the Israeli on their shelf. They must have read Debbie and come to their senses.

Michael: Glad to hear this, but it’s the exception, not the rule. Sadly, most American Whole foods do NOT carry Israeli olive oil. And when I originally broke this story, they did not sell it on their website, only the Palestinian terror olive oil. DS

Michael Pecken on August 22, 2009 at 4:02 am

There is no Whole Foods in Irvine, CA.

I love to (figuratively) spit in the eye of the commie libs that shop at Whole Foods.

When in the area, I always park my car right up front (next to the hybrid Priuses, sporting Gore-Lieberman/Kerry-Edwards/Osama/Biden bumper stickers). My car sports a few VERY in-your-face conservative stickers, including a large “IMPEACH OBAMA” sticker.

I can usually flush out a nasty comment from a metrosexual fool. I go inside, and then eat my fill of free samples, and be sure to buy NOTHING. Let these leftist rats go broke.

Maybe the Jewish liberals will wise up one day—-support Israel and defeat islam….or at least EXPEL the muslim vermin from OUR HOMELAND.

As much as I hate the idea that WF is supporting Hamas, etc., you are way off-base that conservatives are Israel’s problem. Barack Hussain Obama is. did you not hear the speech in Egypt??? conservatives and the religious right are Israel’s best supporters (Jerusalem was a closed city to christians too until 1967). Linking any of this to healthcare is also stupid. A govt plan is a disaster (costs rising much faster from govt programs than private sector insurance–do some research, OK?) but regardless, what does that have to do with Israel? So let’s just keep our issues separate, shall we? Boycott Whole Foods, yes–but for the right reasons!

J: If you actually bothered to read my work, you’d know I never said conservatives are Israel’s problem, but there are some “conservatives” who are, like Pat Buchanan, and they are not to be overlooked. Buying at Whole Foods will NOT stop ObamaCare. If you bothered to read this article, you’d have a clue what this has to do with Israel. RIF–Reading Is Fundamental. Premature articulation isn’t. DS

JohN HENRY on August 22, 2009 at 11:01 am

An article about Whole Foods in London selling Zaytoun Olive Oil first appeared in http://www.takeapen.org/ in June 2008.

AS: I don’t see a thing about that on that site. Regardless, they sell this Palestinian terror olive oil and don’t sell Israeli olive oil in most WF stores in the states. And they fund anti-Israel programming and propaganda. DS

Alter Solomon on August 22, 2009 at 12:39 pm

I was wondering what we should call the Palestinian people because there is no true Palestine. Should we just call them Muslim Terrorists? Yeah, I know, saying Muslim and Terrorists back-to-back is redundant. How about something that ends in “phile”, like sheep-o-phile (lover of sheep).

Jarhead on August 22, 2009 at 12:40 pm

Joel, we all know that Debbie doesn’t think that the conservatives are Israel’s problems. She agrees with you about Obama. She is talking about those conservatives, below, and their ilk. See her comment, below:

not knowing who Debbie Schlussel is or her politics (my first visit to this blog), I mistook her writing as some air america-style crap. Now I understand better; thank you for clarifying.

joel on August 22, 2009 at 8:39 pm

I’m glad I checked your story on Whole Foods, because initially
I was sympathizing with the guy, who did right a decent oped
in WSJ concerning health care reform options. If he’s a friend of the “Palestinians” then I will not shop at his stores. Besides, the organic foods game is just another myth
of the Leftist religion, along with global warming, CO2 is toxic (tell that to the plants!), DDT kills birds and thins egg shells, and other too many to mention ideas.

When will the liberal Jews quit voting Democrat? What are they thinking? Yeah, I know the Republicans suck too, but not nearly as much, especially in regards to Israel.

J: Ted Nugent is a draft-dodging fraud who had three kids out of wedlock with women he never married, including one with whom he cheated on his current wife. He also made extremely disparaging comments about Catholics in his latest book. He’s a complete hypocrite, NOT a conservative.

I didn’t know this. Thanks for enlightening me. That being said, I still liked the Youtube video.

Jarhead on August 23, 2009 at 2:10 pm

Thanks for the heads-up on washed-up rocker Ted Nugent.
I un-subscribed to Human Events when he wrote an article there offering his services as Obama’s anti-drugs czar. Similarly the late Elvis offered his services to Nixon, who was persuaded to pose with him in a photo-op and gave him an honorary badge. Like Elvis, probably Ted is a big consumer of hard drugs and not cannabis.

In any event, prohibition plays into the hands of Islamic Jihadists, who increasingly are intertwined with poppy and Coca producers and downstream distribution.

Kevin Bjornson on May 14, 2011 at 4:07 pm

The shallow Right defends MacKay because he agrees with them on one issue. I look at the broader picture and I happen to agree with the Left a boycott of Whole Foods is long overdue.

NormanF on August 23, 2009 at 12:34 am

I would say that shopping at a normal supermarket is the way to respond to Whole Foods. Let them go the way of other overpriced retailers.

    Sorrow01 on August 23, 2009 at 2:38 am

More superb straight talk from Debbie. Excellent info rarely found elsewhere.

And you’re persuaded me to see the Basterds, which I was going to avoid because I had read that it was even gorier than Kill Bill.

Rachel Corrie was a dimwit, but not a whore. She wasn’t smiling when she urned the American flag in Gaza. Her face was contorted with hate and rage.

MRS: She was, indeed, smiling (with hate) and was indeed a whore, whoring herself out to American-hating, Jew-hating Muslims. the flag-burning was Exhibit A of that. DS

Miranda Rose Smith on August 23, 2009 at 11:11 am

Whole Foods is pretty big here in the People’s Republic of Travis County (Austin, TX). What’s much bigger in the southern half of the state is a grocery store chain called HEB. In the Dallas/Ft Worth area the term HEB refers to a group of Ft Worth suburbs named Hurst, Euless, and Bedford. South of Waco HEB are the initials of the founder of the grocery store chain Howard Edward Butt. HEB is used in order to have the chain named after the founder w/o having big signs in front of the stores that read “BUTT”.

So, a common joke around here goes something like this: Did you hear that HEB had bought out Whole Foods Market? Whole Foods stores will all now be renamed H.E.Butt-Whole Foods!

John Hamer on August 23, 2009 at 3:02 pm

Debbie, you should also look into the German company Siemens now sponsoring NPR programs. Seems that NPR and others don’t bother to do ANY vetting of the companies wishing to sponsor or advertise on their programs (this has been confirmed in emails I have received from NPR executives). ABC News’, Times Square, Jumbotron is paid for by Siemens, so you won’t find any negative stories about them on ABC News. Nor will you hear any such news on NPR either. I was just starting to press NPR’s attorneys to set the record straight about a 2004 scandal involving Siemens when I was informed that they “just happened” to sign on as new sponsors within days of my inquiries. They had not been sponsors of NPR before this. Go figure! What a coincidence HUH!? Anyway, aside from innumerable corruption charges, hefty fines in the US, Europe and elsewhere in the world for bribing government officials, the firing of hundreds of employees and executives in connection with this corruption, you might not know that in 2002 Siemens had the audacity (or stupidity) to try and actually trademark the name ‘Zyklon’ for use in the US. In case this doesn’t immediately ring a bell, remember ‘Zyklon B’ and its connection to Germans, the Nazis and extermination of Jews? YEAH – that was a great marketing decision by Siemens, wasn’t it?! I wonder what happened to the marketing people and attorneys that where the ‘geniuses’ behind this idea? I bet they are still at the company and probably have gotten raises!

Screw WF. I’m a Trader Joe’s shopper. I mostly subsist on meat and beer anyway. Vegetables? I get all the veggies I want or need by eating the flesh of animals that once ate vegetables.

Seriously, most of the variety in my diet comes from going to lunch with coworkers. I have 3/4 of a King Arthur Supreme in my fridge, I’m set for the rest of the week.

Perhaps they only hate Israel and not Jews at all. I’m not a fan of Israel. It was only re-established by the U.S. as a colony and base in the mid-east so that we could have an ally in our ongoing wars. We needed some help to be bullies, so we set it up, and gave them some jets and rockets to help us out. America’s “support” of Israel has nothing to do with Jews and all to do with profit, just as Whole Foods’ lack of support.

The idiot conservatives that supported the Iranian student uprising as well. You said it well, knee-jerk reaction. Thanks, Debbie.

Thanks Debbie for informing me of the fact that Wholefoods does not support Isreal. I have been an employee for two years and was always afraid that somehow the Jews were profitting or gaining support from our hard work. If you’re a true Jew than you would know that the real Jews were killed in the Holooust and that the majority of Jews today are actually Zionists who beleive and worship true filth and evil to say the least. So when you go to sleep at night and are praying to God please ask him for forgiveness for your people have and will always will live in sin. If this is the first that you’ve heard such remarks than please research and study “the Talmud” which is the secret book that Zionist Jews follow and study. And stop watching the news for all tv,news, and the entertainment industry is owned and opperated by them…they control what we all hear and see and you need to realize that. Check out http://www.thewakeupproject.com open and expand your mind to what is really going on in this world and stop attacking places like wholefoods!!

Christina on December 27, 2009 at 12:32 am

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has found no evidence to claims by some bloggers on the Internet that Whole Foods Market is “anti-Israel.”

In particular, some have specifically criticized a Whole Foods seasonal promotion around halal foods that meet the company’s high quality standards. Such criticism is misguided, inappropriate and contrary to American values. We live in a multicultural, multi-ethnic and multi-faith society.

Just as Whole Foods provides prepared food, recipes, and specialty items (including products imported from Israel) to Jewish customers for Passover and other holiday observances, it is entirely fitting for them to do the same for customers marking Muslim, Hindu and other religious festivals.

James on August 7, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Why give your money to a place that supports terrorism? There are many other places to shop who are not blatantly anti-Semitic.
