Apparently, in today’s day and age, it’s a laudable achievement to publicly proclaim that you are having sex with someone of the same gender. At least, you’d come to that conclusion if you listened to Ellen Degeneres’ daytime talk show audience’s loud cheers and applause when she mentioned it. See the video below. So-and-so just cured cancer. Loud silence, crickets chirping. Lackluster NBA player Jason Collins just announced to the world he’s gay. The world erupts in accolades, encomiums, and other over-exuberant back-slapping over someone announcing he has oral and anal sex. Yay, Western civilization. Since when is that “courageous”? And, yet, the media and the rest of the conventional wisdom purveyors call this, “courage.” PUH-LEEZE. For the record, I don’t care what you do behind closed doors. It’s none of my business, so don’t shove it in my face (same goes for far too many heterosexuals who know zero boundaries). But it’s comical the congrats this guy is getting for talking about his sex life, which is all his announcement amounts to. TMI in a sadly TMI-as-the-norm world. The only places where this announcement would truly be remarkable is in Cairo, Tehran, Riyadh, or Tunis. Then, the remarkable thing would be how long until Jasser Al-Khollins was beheaded.

You’ll never hear Ellen Degeneres’ moronic audience ever cheering Israel, where gays have more rights than anywhere in the world. Because Ellen would never want to offend Muslims who hate and want to execute her and her fellow gays. That’s how hypocritical and fraudulent she and most of the rest of her ilk (Elton John is one of the notable exceptions) are. And how vacant her audience is, not to ever think twice about blindly cheering her baloney.

By the way, since we’re now all about giving the world the nitty gritty on our sex lives, why did Jason Collins stop there? Is he too embarrassed and self-hating/homophobic to not also tell us whether he’s the chick or the dude in the relationship? In front or behind? Don’t worry, I’m sure that’s next in our ever-declining society. After all, a porn star–Kim Kardashian–who made an explicit video of herself having sex with rapper Ray J shot to stardom and multi-millions because of it and is now the most admired chick among America’s young women. And Farrah Abraham (a “Christian” Arab) is now the talk of the country, since this star of MTV’s “Teen Mom” has now made a porn movie, “Backdoor Teen Mom.”

Good luck, America. Jason Collins’ announcement is yet another manifestation of an illness (and I’m not referring to homosexuality). And the cancer has metastasized.

So Jason Collins comes out as gay. I think the universal reaction to that is . . . who? I mean this guy played for the Celtics, the team I’ve rooted for since I was a kid, and I HAD NO IDEA WHO HE WAS! I’ve heard some discussion about the classy way he went about this. I’m not so sure. His statement was “I’m black and I’m gay.” Okay, so if I don’t approve of your lifestyle does that mean I’m racist?

Here’s the thing. I have no problems with what people do in their spare time. Hell, a TON of straight athletes beat their wives/girlfriends/baby-mommas so if the gay athletes aren’t physically abusing their significant other, that might be some progress. But as I’ve seen before, this will likely create a new class of “other” that needs protection/legal action. Or worse. Back in the early 90s, when my alma mater officially sanctioned the campus LGBT group as an official campus organization (after the group claimed they simply wanted to be represented on campus), what happened? They started an action to try to drive ROTC from campus, simply because the military didn’t allow gays to serve openly. It was unsuccessful, but it speaks to the nature of officially recognized victimhood.

In fact, Harvey Levin of TMZ recently “came out”, and now his once amusing show has become one gay joke after another.

WHY do they think I find it inappropriate?

Actually, Ellen Degeneres almost torpedoed her own career when she came out as a lesbian. She had a successful TV series and for some reason decided that the time to come out was when she was on top of the world. After that her series became the vehicle through which she would shove homosexuality down the throats of America. She discovered that we weren’t interested, and her show was cancelled for poor ratings. It wasn’t that America had anything against her for being gay, it was that the majority of Americans don’t want gay shoved down their throats. Her show ceased to be funny, and became militant. After the show was cancelled, she didn’t work for a while, until she got the daytime talk show gig. For the most part she downplays the gay thing, and is a nice,pleasant host. Therefore, American women watch her show. When she gets all up in our faces with the gay thing, we tune her out.

As for this NBA player, I suspect he knows his career is on the skids, and will now use this “revelation” to sue any team that doesn’t hire him or renew his contract. Hardly brave. More like a craven coward.

I turned on WTOP and this is all I heard.

Look, this guy is not the first gay athlete. He is not even the first gay NBA player. However, now we get to hear about it and have it paraded before us. ENOUGH ALREADY.

I don’t care that he is gay. I have lesbian friends, and they don’t talk about being lesbian all of the time, or any of the time, just like normal heterosexuals don’t talk about heterosexuality all the time.

I will note that unlike most of his fellow players, he most likely will never rape a woman, so there are advantages to being gay (Are you listening, Kobey Bryant?)

The (not so) brilliant response to my comment about not wanting to know or caring what someone does behind closed doors was that I, as a heterosexual go around proclaiming it and “shoving it in gays’ faces,” every time I mention my husband, and that makes me obnoxious and a hypocrite. HUH?

Why should sleeping around be something for which you deserve social recognition? I know we’re a sexually permissive society but still I’m old fashioned enough to know there are limits.

This is not about being anti-gay! I object to the same gross behavior when its announced by heterosexuals. We have a right to insist on appropriate adult behavior in public in our society.

Refinement is not the country of old men; its the heritage of civilization. The fact that some people don’t know how to show good manners around others means the rest of us have to behave that much more politely. Doing the right thing ought to earn us G-d’s approval and we don’t need others to tell us to do what is right.

Our country has definitely changed and as the mindless cheering on the Ellen Degeneres Show revealed, its not a good sign for its future.

I remember back in the 80s when it WAS truly brave to come out as gay. I had gay friends who I accepted allllll the way back then when it wasn’t so easy.

In 2013, it’s just boring and nobody cares! You would think gays would be happy it’s so accepted to be boring and people don’t give a sh**.

Look at dumb-ass Ellen. It took her years to come out (and what a shocker! NOT!) and even back then it was boring. Howard Stern even called her “Allen” for years before she came out. And not even babies about to be born were shocked when heinous Rosie O’Donnell came out. They knew in utero, for eff’s sake!

You will bore me to tears if you’re gay and you come out and act as if it so bloody brave. You’ll need a time machine that goes back to 1983 for that to happen for me. Nerds!

Barry is holding back on coming out. He is waiting until he is out of office and in Hawaii in his mansion so he and his male lover(s) can have privacy. Kind of like the liberals old hero FDR, who was screwing Lucy Mercer until he died at Warm Springs (maybe a reason for his death).

Barry will be in some future memoir relating his relationship with his “fella”. Luke rather than Lucy. If Barry is not gay then why fight DOMA, celebrate a “marriage” of two gays on his staff and promote the extension of benefits to gays in the military, etc. The latter has royally messed up the military at the unit level? Norman, in the case of a rabbi, I think I have to disagree. Torah specifically prohibits homosexuality and a rabbi is a teacher and interpreter of Torah. If he is living a life contrary to Torah in this regard, how can we rely on his opinion in other matters? I have said before that I believe orientation is not a choice, but behavior is. Either remain celibate or don’t be a rabbi would be the choices here.

I’d love to see your references prohibiting gay rabbis–and they better not include the Catholic texts that have so influenced you.

The gay rabbi in question has not been stripped of his certificate. In fact, I cannot recall a single major Jewish figure who did not err (according to Halacha of the time). It is simply that Christian-Jews such as yourself share Christian fixations on homosexuality. It’s convenient, I guess, for you.

Allow me to take the devil’s position on this because both sides of this debate are giving me a headache.

As much as I see the celebrations around Jason Collins’s coming out as excessive and unnecessary (what’s next – a holiday? A parade? Round-the-clock news coverage? A Congressional Medal for Coming Out?), this act should tell people in the LGBTQ communities that it’s alright to be themselves while letting those in the hetero sphere (read “us normal folk”) that they are by default no different.

There are still lots of youngsters (teens – at my age, they’re still kids) who get depressed after being bullied for their orientation. Many of them still commit suicide as a result. Collins’s coming out should help them cope and at least know that there are those who have decided to persevere.

The only reaction I can muster in this case is, “Great. Thank you for coming out. You’re a good man. Now get back in the game, you knucklehead.” That does a lot more good than all the celebrations and Pride Parades can ever muster.

As for the Arab Muslim (a redundant term, IMO) states – eff them.

BTW – I used to be a full-blown homophobe, but then I took an arrow to the knee. And a gay man treated it.

I remember the State of the Union address last year. Normally, the president invites several “heroes” to be saluted. Well, Obama invited some lackluster butch officer woman in the Navy I think it was, and announced that she could now openly sleep with another woman, huzzah!

This woman hadn’t saved a platoon during a firefight, or cracked some impossible enemy code. Lesbianism itself was being honored.

I wonder, when as a nation did we decide to make national heroes out of perverts? Or, rather, when did we decide to make perversion itself some kind of nickel-plated national deity? Hm?

While I consider it to be a *probable* good thing that he came out, as he is a viable role model for a subset of teens frequently marginalized (otherwise It Gets Better and the Trevor Project would serve no purpose), and a WELCOME alternative to the baby-daddy brigade endemic in pro-sports, I am damned tired of proclamations that he is a hero. Like Debbie said about Henneberry and Giffords, there is a definition of the word Hero, and Collins does not qualify. Coming out would be heroic in the early 90s when the closet was strictly expected and players feared professional reprisals, but not in 2013 when legions of straight allies within the athletic community have been saying “Come out, we’ve got cuddles for you!”. Not when Obama and the Clintons and MLB have Twitter kisses for him. And not when major media outlets have paroxysms of joy at his very existence, likely extending his career and the value of his contract. The burden of coming out in the western world these days is like a bag of flour, not the weight of the world. Christ, I miss when people knew the meanings of words.

Now, if this claim is true, then very clearly there are strong disincentives to coming out that persist in 2013, in certain areas. So, his coming out is a big deal after all. Whether it should be a circus is a different matter entirely.

I’ve never like Ellen Degenerate. It had nothing to do with the fact that she’s a lezbot but that she reminded me of a skinnier paler version of the Ophrag. It figures that she and her suckaphant audience would come out and applaud Jason Collin’s “heroic” coming out of the closet. May I ask what the heck is so heroic about it. We are living in an age were we have not only the first black president(such as he is) but also according to Newsweak we also have the first gay president. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t care a wit what you do behind closed doors. What I do care about is the militant LGBT crowd telling me that I’m an Uncle Tom homophobe because I don’t believe in nor support the gay lifestyle. I do know that his announcement to me was like, “You came out ok whatever now STFU and go play ball”. The only thing I care about NBA wise is when the finals start. It will be The Heat and whatever Western Conference team makes it.

Yes, within reason, I, also, do not care what goes on behind closed doors. The problem is that many in the gay rights movement have demands that extend far beyond their closed doors. Gay marriage is the main example, but there are others.
