SICKEST Valentine’s Day Event – Your Tax $s @ Work

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****

Is watching animals have sex and learning how they “do it” your idea of romance? If it is, you have something in common with the sickos who run the Detroit Zoo and would probably enjoy their bizarre and creepy dinner event, Thursday Night focusing on animal sex.

creepy

As you know–unless you’ve avoided every single store, TV ad, and other non-stop promotions of the day–Thursday is male DREAD (Doghouse Risk Extra-Avoidance Day) or as the rest of America calls it, “Valentine’s Day.” And while most American men are rushing to CVS or Walgreen’s after work on that day, trying to find a box of chocolates and a card, so they aren’t henpecked and kicked to the curb for not abiding by this silly corporate-created obligation, some men in the Detroit area will apparently be taking their significant others to the Detroit Zoo’s sold out “Love Gone Wild” event for an “intimate look” at how the Detroit Zoo animals have sex. Your tax dollars at work:

Birds do it. Bees do it. Find out how animals at the Detroit Zoo do it at Love Gone Wild on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 6:30-10 p.m. Open to both singles and sweethearts, this memorable Valentine’s Day event will offer a candid and entertaining look at how zoo animals do the “wild thing”. The evening will include an intimate and revealing look into the “dating” and mating escapades of the zoo’s animals.

detroitzooanimalsex

I have to admit that most items on the the $75 per person dinner menu sound delicious, but the finest gourmet cuisine doesn’t make the people who pay to go to this thing on Valentine’s Day (or any day) any less perverted and creepy. On top of that, it’s kind of hypocritical for a place that bills itself as a family destination to host this twisted stuff.

The Detroit Zoo, which is constantly struggling financially, is paid for by local taxes, but also gets a number of grants from local, state, and federal governments, to the tune of over $12 million in government grant money, according to the zoo’s latest tax forms. The zoo also spent nearly $1.5 million on lobbying, each of the last four years. Was bestiality marriage equality among the lobbying efforts?

I also note that one of the zoo’s “Directors” is Hassan Jaber, the anti-Israel Palestinian Muslim who heads the Muslim-dominated, pro-Hezbollah/HAMAS Arab welfare agency, ACCESS–the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services, which aids and abets Muslim illegal aliens in coming to America and stay here, living on entitlements. (The multi-million dollar tax-funded ACCESS also spent thousands in job training on the Detroit Terror Cell members.) Apparently, Mr. Jaber had no prob with this “animal sex” event.

Hey, more of that “Islamic modesty” President Bush and Jeff Jacoby were constantly lecturing us about.

And most of the directors on the zoo’s board are also Obamabots.

Chick #1: What did you and your husband do for Valentine’s Day?

Chick #2: We went to the animal sex dinner at the Detroit Zoo.

The people who like this stuff have a screw loose (and they probably liked that dumb song about the Discovery Channel, too). Love Gone Wild . . . or tax-paid zoo administrators’ sick minds gone wild? I vote the latter.

Yeah, I know–I’m the backward, closed-minded reactionary “living in the ’50s” because I don’t think an animal sex dinner held by a public institution is cool. That’s the typical response in this era of ObamaCare, illegal alien mass amnesty, gay marriage, women in combat, and Jay-Z and Ludacris at the White House.

Maybe, next year, for Valentine’s Day, the zoo can show animal snuff films . . . or something. Since this is the second year in a row the Detroit Zoo is hosting this warped event, it’s time to up the game, right?

**** UPDATE: Reader “dograt” says the Detroit Zoo animal sex banquet reminds him of this sketch from “The State”:

Yup, exactly the kind of high quality people you’d see at this event.

I’m surprised the next stop on the tour isn’t the state prison to learn about the sex going on there. I bet this is popular with the folks from Dearbornistan hoping they can see some goat and sheep love. In an era of bizarre news stories, this one tops it, at least for today, or maybe fifteen minutes.

RT on February 11, 2013 at 4:26 pm

People, especially children see wild animals having sex on the National Geographic specials. But that’s not “in your face” stuff. You are not forced to watch it if you don’t want to.

What makes the Detroit Zoo’s Valentine Day’s program different is people deny the beasts the very dignity which they deserve and respect. One would think even animals are deserving of privacy when they’re engaged in procreation.

There’s more to it than that. If couples really need to watch wild animals animals having sex to rekindle their relationship, its a sad commentary on the state of our society. Its bad enough Valentine’s Day has become a “day in hell” on which men must do certain things on to avoid the wrath of the woman in their lives. Here, there’s no romance to the day when it involves watching animal porn together.

If this is now the essence of Valentine’s Day, who needs it? Things like this take all the spontaneity and fun out of genuine romance and true love and our society is the poorer for it.

NormanF on February 11, 2013 at 4:26 pm

They don’t make Valentine’s Day like they used to.

If a woman comes expecting an entitlement with it, let’s just say its not going to be a marriage made in heaven.

NormanF on February 11, 2013 at 4:29 pm

I guess they’re just catching up with the art world.

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 4:39 pm

Ew!

Michelle on February 11, 2013 at 4:45 pm

There is a market for bestiality porn.

Sick and perverted. What’s offered at the Detroit Zoo is just slightly more upscale.

NormanF on February 11, 2013 at 4:46 pm

So what’s wrong with wanting to live in the fifties?
Looks like it was a pretty good time back then. Prosperous, conservative, good education, people actually raising their kids, two-parent families with mothers and fathers. Works for me!

Michelle on February 11, 2013 at 4:48 pm

I agree with you 100% Michelle.

Susan in San Diego on February 12, 2013 at 11:17 am

Something is seriously wrong with Detroit, and the Detroit Zoo is probably the least of its problems.

Meanwhile over in San Diego, here is the agenda for their world famous Zoo on Feb. 14:

Valentine’s Day Dinner
Thursday, 14 February, 2013
06:00 PM – 08:00 PM
Treat your Valentine to a wildly romantic evening! Celebrate love with a gourmet meal in the beautiful surroundings of the Safari Park. Our chef has an elegant menu planned for a lovely dinner with your loved one. We’ll provide the setting, you bring the romance!

Reception with animal presentation and no-host bar begins at 6 p.m. Four-course dinner served at 6:30 p.m.

Animals are beautiful creatures, and we should treat them with respect.

I am reminded of this great and memorable scene from the masterpiece movie, Spartacus (1960), starring Kirk Douglas in the title role and Jean Simmons as Varinia, along with the marvelously corrupt Gracchus, played by Peter Ustinov. Finally the beautiful musical theme by scorewriter Alex North. Famous line: “I am NOT an animal!”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoQeksBRPLI

It seems to me that certain PEOPLE in Detroit should be behind the cages for observation.

Ralph Adamo on February 11, 2013 at 4:56 pm

    Ralph,

Actually once upon a time they displayed human pygmies and curiosities in zoos for public edification.

I’m sure today’s “Animal House” frat crowd could be just as entertaining.

NormanF on February 11, 2013 at 5:01 pm

Spartacus is a mixed bag. Trouble is that this was the movie that broke the Communist blacklist in Hollywood, paving the way for the trash we see today.

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 5:20 pm

Well, Al, we are getting way off topic, but I assume you have a problem with Dalton Trumbo, the screenwriter of Spartacus, because Trumbo was a member of the Communist Party from 1943 until 1948. However, I’ve made a point of renting every Dalton Trumbo-scripted movie I could get, and I don’t see any signs of Communist propaganda in any of his screenplays. Spartacus is a sort of precursor to the civil rights movement–and the movie is anti-slavery–but that’s hardly communist propaganda. Then there’s the screenplay based on Leon Uris’s Exodus that Trumbo wrote. Again freedom is the theme there, and there’s nothing in that movie that is pro-communist at all. And the only other film with some sort of liberal or leftist theme, if you could call it that, is Johnny Got His Gun, which was an anti-war novel, and which was subsequently adapted to the screen in the 1970s. But again, that theme or Trumbo’s treatment of it is hardly communist propaganda. And, moreover, today’s communists don’t even look to Trumbo has one of their heros. Most of those Hollywood 10 writers were not sinister characters, but were mainly politically naive in looking to communism as an antidote to fascism.

Also, you cannot compare quality writers like Dalton Trumbo with today’s ultra-leftist or communist sympathizers, like Tony Kushman, for example–as Kushman cannot not write as well as Trumbo, and if you follow Kushman’s screenplays, unlike Trumbo’s, you will see plenty of communist/leftist propaganda and lies in them.

Ralph Adamo on February 11, 2013 at 6:09 pm

We’re getting way off topic here, but I assume you have a problem with Dalton Trumbo, who was a member of the Communist Party from 1943 until 1948. Trumbo was politically naive, but if you examine his work, there’s no communist propaganda or themes in any of his work. Spartacus is anti-slavery, and anticipated the civil rights movement, but that’s hardly pro-communist. The same goes for his screenplay of Leon Uris’s Exodus with its theme of freedom or for his novel/screenplay Johnny Got His Gun with its anti-war theme.

Furthermore, none of today’s leftists or communists even look to Trumbo as a hero, in spite of his exraordinary achievements. In contrast, today’s “celebrated” ultra-leftists, like Tony Kushner, for example, can’t write as well as Trumbo, and, unlike Trumbo, Kushner’s work is loaded with leftist or communist propaganda and lies. There is a difference.

Ralph Adamo on February 11, 2013 at 6:17 pm

I guess repeating a comment makes it more true. I’m not going to go through all of Trumbo’s trash. But I’ll say first of all, you missed the main point of the post. The main point, reminding you once again that reading is fundamental, is a criticism of Spartacus for breaking the Blacklist.

Once again, for those who need things repeated (as in repeating comments) is that THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH SPARTACUS WAS THE BREAKING OF THE BLACKLIST, RATHER THAN TRUMBO’S INADEQUACIES.

But, as long as Trumbo is part of the conversation, you forgot to mention his plagiarism. Roman Holiday is a plagiarist piece of trash, stolen from Princess O’Rourke. And of course, Trumbo thought he was being cute, stealing from Princess O’Rourke, because the heroine of that movie was Olivia de Havilland, who, along with Ronald Reagan and others, played a heroic role in ridding movies, at least temporarily, of Communist trash such as Trumbo.

So of course Trumbo plagiarizes from her movie. And of course, he refuses to cooperate with a Government committee that was trying to cleanse Hollywood, i.e. the House un-American Activities Committee.

Maybe it’s time to stop reading so many left-wing sites.

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 7:15 pm

And again, considering the subject matter, to try to be civil to a regular contributor, Johnny Get Your Gun, which you mentioned, is a noteworthy antiwar film, obviously designed to weaken our effort in Vietnam.

Do you really think that a formal disaffiliation with Communism means any of these people renounced their hatred of the United States?

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 7:23 pm

In a word, progress.

Its not hip and cool to be stuck in the past.

In the Western World, time never stands still. It would be ideal to avoid the bad but its the price of all the good that comes along with it.

For all its drawbacks and shortcomings, I wouldn’t dream of living anywhere else or having been born in centuries long gone.

You have to be a real freak to want to have a romantic dinner while watching animal sex.

Disturbing

ebayer on February 11, 2013 at 5:48 pm

I guess it doesn’t take much to work PR for the City of Detroit or the Detroit Zoo. What idiot came up with this? Maybe it’s a sting op to see just who would pay to see this and why. Nah, just Detroit being Detroit.

WilliamMunny on February 11, 2013 at 5:52 pm

As someone who works with animals, this is indeed only for the sicko, prurient, debased masses that 2013 brings us. YUCKO!

I am VERY interested in animal behaviour but I have ZERO interest in this and would only partake in an educational course that is germane to animal procreational habits to help further that understanding if it was required for future work. That is not presently on the roster so I say “No thanks, perverts!”

I am pragmatic and a fighter but I have ZERO hope for what the future brings for this diseased culture. I believe we have passed the point of no return.

This lascivious nonsense belongs in a culture where (presently) one can get their sex on oh so freely YET medicinal aids like “Viagra” and “Cialis” are needed for the so-called “sexy” and the rest of the going through the motions crowd. Where emphasis is put squarely on the superficial (face lifts, plastic surgery, anti-depressants for peeps who should be no where near being sexual when they are walking mental cases in their own right) and TRUE romantic, committed and covenantal marriages are more rare than rocking-horse crap. In a society that has so far eradicated the boundaries of proper sexual behaviours that they are trying to legitimize paedophilia and other sexual deviancies. This is perversion on parade!

I really liked what Norman said. Dignity is something that is lost (in 2013) individually and to others. Disgrazia!

All dopes hoping to get unfeeling, Zombiefied crapola on VD day know deep in their heart there is nothing of substance behind it.

And I feel badly because Zoos DO need money coming in to sustain them (and I only support this to keep the caged animals in a somewhat dignified living environment) and this is a HORRIBLE way to whore for funds. These pervos (who will attend) remind me of those who attend pornographic film events (like at a college or “Lefty” theatre events) in public with other hipster doofuses. Debased freaks who are pervo imbeciles!

Not shocked a Moooooslim is in the thick of this. They are as Satanic as one can get and hide their perversions (which are legion) and at the same time want the Infidels to fall from grace by their same closeted vice (with more excuses than a Mexican going to jail as for why it’s a sin for the Infidel but “Halal” for the Jihadi).

If you got someone who will give you all the Feb 14th trappings on any other day you have bragging rights. Otherwise you’re a lemming looking forward to the meaningless, go-with-the-crowd mass zombie-walk plunge. Bon Voyage!

Skunky on February 11, 2013 at 6:54 pm

Occam's Tool on February 11, 2013 at 7:25 pm

Don’t know anyone named Tony Kushman. Don’t suppose you mean Tony Kushner? Mr. Kushner has regained the limelight among liberals recently, since he attacks evil Republican Mormans.

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Yes, I meant Tony Kushner. But to your other point, hiring Dalton Trumbo didn’t pave the way for anything. Trumbo and others in his “group” continued to write, but as I’ve pointed out, none of his stuff holds up as communist propaganda. And if you think that Johnny Got His Gun had any impact on the Vietnam War, you’re nuts. If you look at docmentaries at the time, you will see that the media back then, unlike today, showed what war was really like–and I’d conclude that those disturbing visual reminders had a far greater imoact on Americans attitudes toward the war than Johnny Got His Gun had, even if you magnified that movies impact by 10,000 times.

And if you want to blame anybody for breaking the blacklist, blame Kirk Douglas, who insisted that Trumbo was the guy to write the screenplay for Spartacus. Like I said, if anything, Douglas and Trumbo were expressing an anti-slavery theme, and that may have later resonated with the civil rights movement–but that’s as far as you can take it. And while you’re at it, you might also attack Frank Sinatra, who wanted Albert Maltz–another Hollywood 10 writer–to work on a screenplay, but Sinatra got word from Joseph P. Kennedy (JFK’s father and a former Nazi sympathizer, as well as Underworld Outfit player) that Maltz was out. The bottom line is that Douglas and Sinatra–who also happened to be very close friends–were only interested in quality. There was no political agenda. So let it go, if you can. And if you can’t then go do some actual research for a change, and do an an analysis of Trumbo’s work to show it’s “communism” and how Trumbo “paved the way for widespread leftism” in America. You do realize that today there are loads of film scholars out there, and nobody has written any paper remotely even suggesting such a thing. Not that they haven’t tried. And as for my repeating my message, the first time I typed it it froze and I thought it was lost, so I wrote another one. I’m sure this isn’t the first time that’s happened.

Ralph Adamo on February 11, 2013 at 9:28 pm

You rely on ‘film scholars’. Don’t you know, after all these years of reading this blog, and contributing to it, the degree to which left wing bias generally permeates their ‘studies’? Of course they will minimize left wing influence.

You didn’t refute my assertions of Trumbo’s plagiarism, or hatred of the country that gave him so much.

And of course there were multiple influences in turning this country against the war, but the responsibility of the press in no way exonerates Trumbo’s filth, or absolves his garbage film of its share of the responsibility. And like most liberals, you shift the subject. I was making the point about Johnny in terms of Trumbo’s politics; you subtly shifted to the ‘lack of influence’ of the film, departing from the focus of my comments.

And (I’m not saying this for you as much as for others who will read this) the point is that opening the door to the Communists in the early 60s again paved the way for leftists to escalate their influence through the decades to the point we are at now. Had they been kept out then, their influence and the influence of left-wingers in general in Hollywood would be far less today. And yes, Kirk Douglas and Frank Sinatra (the draft evader of World War II) did play a role in welcoming Communists again. Does that make it better? Does a desire for financial riches coupled with naivety make things better? I don’t think so.

And I pointed out months ago to you, apparently unsuccessfully, that the Communists’ influence was more indirect — film noir, showing undesirable facets of American life, lack of criticism of the Soviet Union, and supporting the war effort as Trumbo did while his beloved Russia was under attack. The very title of his WW II movie, Tender Comrade was obviously designed to equate Stalinist Russia with the United States. Of course the Soviet Union (sic) was whitewashed in that movie.

I have explained these things over and over again here, and your comments seem to show a real lack of comprehension of what I am saying. You recite facts, but miss the main points of my arguments. Notice how quickly Hollywood shifted from support of civil rights to opposition to the Vietnam War, and then villainization of the CIA in less than 15 years (ew.g. Three Days of the Condor, one of the most revolting films ever made).

And you might try reading or rereading what Ronald Radosh and Ken Billingsley have written about World War II and Communist influence in Hollywood. Or perhaps, the excellent articles Human Events has had over the years about Communist influence in Hollywood during the 30s and 40s. You might also try “Un-American Hollywood” edited by Frank Krutnik et al, although it has to be read very carefully. Hedda Hopper and Luella Parsons have also written about this, although they, too, have to be read carefully.

It is hard for me to understand how it is generally understood what pernicious influence left-wingers have in Hollywood today, but there are so many blind spots about what happened half a century or so ago.

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 10:08 pm

Little A1, there’s nothing to refute. You’ve presented no facts, no evidence, and no examples for anything you’ve said. You;ve only engaged in ipse dixitisms–and superficial ones at that. Like I said, do so REAL research for a change, instead of relying on mindless political demogoguery. When you do some real research and present real facts and evidence, and then develop a logical cohesive argument, then we can talk. And don’t refer me to read some other political hackwork either, unless you’re going to show me some specific evidence from their screeds. Otherwise, you just taking up space and wasting time.

Ralph Adamo on February 11, 2013 at 10:21 pm

Your 10:21 comments are devoid of substance, totally, and just consist of insults and unsupported innuendos. No further response on my part is needed, except to say that a use of obscure expressions like ipse dixitism to imply wisdom, and to mask a lack of substance on your part does not work.

And while Radosh and Billingsley are not perfect, your unsupported attacks on them show your real deep-seated political views, and remind me of your prior comments, months ago about the courageous and heroic Americans who helped expose Communist disloyalty a number of decades ago.

Little Al on February 11, 2013 at 10:31 pm

Like I’ve said, you’ve produced no facts, no evidence, and you haven’t even presented a cohesive argument for your outlandishly absurd premise, i.e. that Trumbo has corrupted the American public. And ipse dixit isn’t an obscure reference. It’s Latin and it’s used ALL of the time–but mainly in the legal arena. And it’s used all of the time for a very good reason. People like you seem to think that just because they say something that it must be true. The idea of demonstrating supporting evidence for assertions has no meaning for a great many people. So, while you might get away with your phony contention here, if you tried to do that nonsense in a legal context, you would get the ipse dixit response from the opposition and you’d lose your case–not that you ever had any. In fact, your inability to provide any support suggests to me that you are really a pseudo-conservative out to discredit real conservatives with ridiculous arguments that attaempt to make conservatives look like fools.

Ralph Adamo on February 11, 2013 at 11:02 pm

My prior comments had lots of concrete statements — you’ve ignored all of them & changed the subject again and again as I indicated with an example in my 10:08 comment. My comments were distilled from the works I cited.

And I guess the difference between conservatives and liberals can be shown by the differing opinions of Trumbo. To me and to real conservatives he was a Commie hack. I gave several examples of plagiarism, softness towards the Land of Socialism, disproportionate portrayal of the seamy side of American life, satires of businessmen, glorification of workers, especially women workers (Tender Comrade & Exodus), and of course anti-Vietnam War. But never criticism of the Soviet Union. Plenty of Film Noir while the Communists were trying to take over the world in the late 40s.

Did you not understand my comments about the slippery slope from support of the civil rights movement to villifying the CIA and attacking our wars while they were in progress in only one decade?

To liberals, including those influenced by Communism, he is described by accolades such as the ones you presented.

And I don’t think we’re in court now. Legal expressions belong in legal settings, although even there, a good attorney will try to avoid being pedantic to avoid antagonizing a jury or to avoid having judges think the lawyer is all style and no substance. And, duh, Latin is a dead language, and references in dead languages are necessarily obscure.

And again, no substance on your part. I will not answer you again until you present some real substance and address the specific statements I have made.

I realize this is an emotional subject for you, but I hope other readers realize that people like Trumbo and Chaplin were enemies of the American way of life, and owed their allegiance to foreign powers, even if, at times, they were coy about it.

A loyal American would cooperate with Government committees trying to uproot Communism. Chaplin and Trumbo did not.

And I will be charitable, since you are a regular contributor and avoid comment on your last statement.

    @Little Al–

Nice work, and I’m frankly surprised at Adamo’s comments.

Red Ryder on February 12, 2013 at 2:53 pm

Thanks, Red Ryder. I have seen Communism ruin many lives, both people from Russia and Eastern Europe, and people in the United States from the 60s who were caught up in the radical activities of that era. Not all of those people wound up as influential professors or Government officials. Although of course many of them are unrepentant, a number of them never recovered from those activities, and essentially had their lives ruined for many years, and at times for the rest of their lives. I have strong feelings about this, just as I’m sure you do too.

Little Al on February 12, 2013 at 9:47 pm

        @Little Al–

Not to mention those caught up in the previous generation. Besides Whittaker Chambers, you would be hard-pressed to name others who were the least bit repentant.

Red Ryder on February 13, 2013 at 9:41 am

There are some like David Horowitz and Peter Collier. While I don’t agree with a number of things they say, or the way they run their site, there is no question that they have renounced the ideas they held in the 60s.

Little Al on February 13, 2013 at 10:48 am

Valentine’s Day is actually the Roman festival of Lupercalia in which all forms of debauchery were publicly practiced and on display. It was only after Christianity became the “official” religion of Rome, that the holiday was given a cloak of respectability but attributing it to a saint.

I’m backward and living in the 50’s too. I miss the days when I was not bombarded with ads for erectile dysfunction on the radio and TV all the time.

Suz on February 12, 2013 at 11:20 am

With all the “acceptance” of other perversions in society, after reading this it made me think we aren’t all that far away from “accepting” beastiality. Remember not all that long ago, no one ever thought there would be wide-spread acceptance of homosexuality. Once we start down that road, it seems it’s only a matter of time before other things rear their ugly heads. I hope and pray I’m wrong though.

The Zoo is appealing to a sick clientele.

The Zoo is debasing humans (as well as their animals) by making animals a live porno show (and during dinner no less)

Next year there could be a comparative analysis between humans having sex and chimps or apes or wildebeests for that matter. Peter North as guest performer, etc.

Its sick and getting sicker.

When the academic is taken without morality this is what you get.

G_d save our country.

Panhandle on February 12, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Sex between a consenting adult and a zoo animal should be kept private….Actually, I bet the discussion is mostly G-rated. It probably centers aroung courting rituals, like what you can see on uncensored television shows. I hope there is a follow-up on this blog, if that is not the case. The event is sold out for all you perverts interested in attending (LOL). I think their billing of the event works to get free press. Personally, I would not shell out $85 for the most enticing meal prepared in a zoo kitchen.

Visteo on February 12, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Wow! Talk about dinner and a show. Seriously what kind of sick twisted fools would pay money so go to something like this. Oh that’s right the same people who say stupid crap like we should “live and let live.” With our accepting of all things abnormal and perverted is it any wonder that this monkey crap at the Detroit Zoo is permitted. It also figures that a smelly Muslim would have his stinky hand in this mess. You can always count on them to gleefully promote filth on an American holiday. Even if it is Valentine’s Day or what I call the still recovering from Christmas bills but turn right around and go out and buy another gift day.

Ken b on February 12, 2013 at 6:31 pm
