When I was a kid, my father took me to Belle Isle, an island off Detroit, which is owned by the city. It used to be one of the city’s jewels, with a zoo and other places to take kids. But Detroit’s Third World banana republic-style Black “leadership,” as with everything else in the city, neglected and ran Belle Isle into the ground. Now, it’s the place where criminals take their victims to rape and/or kill them. The dead bodies of missing persons are often found there. It’s where men on the down-low go to have gay sex out in the open. It’s also the place to do drug deals. The buildings are decrepit and broken down, and you’d have to be nuts to visit the place. Unless you are suicidal. With Detroit long on the verge of bankruptcy, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder offered to lease the island from Detroit, paying the city millions of dollars it badly needs and making the repairs to restore the place to its former glory, when it was a destination for many Detroit-area families.

But no. Instead, as is usually the case when any sensible state elected official, who happens to be White, comes to help this desperate, destitute city, Black activists and residents from all over Detroit come to Detroit City Council meetings accusing White people of trying to rob them, put them back into slavery, and other racist nonsense. This time around, with the Belle Isle plan, the loons on the Detroit City Council had not just Black activists, but also stupid White liberals who are self-haters. Look at the video below from Detroit’s local ABC News affiliate, WXYZ-TV, and watch the moronic White chick who says, “I’m embarrassed to be White.” Um, lady, we don’t wanna claim you, either.

Then, watch the second video – the local FOX News owned-and-operated Detroit station’s news coverage. The station caters to a Black audience, and, thus, it sanitized out the anti-White and most of the other offensive, racist comments. The station’s slanted “news coverage” also show a Black guy with glasses speaking (he says, “People are upset!”) but fails to identify him as the openly anti-Semitic, racist Malik Shabazz, head of Detroit’s New Black Panther Party. He’s blamed Jews for 9/11 and threatened that he’s coming for White people, but he’s constantly given gushing, pandering coverage And watch how the pandering, moronic anchorette, Monica Gayle, sides with the racist Black activists. I’ve seen her wandering vacantly at the local supermarket, and she’s a complete dimwit. Ditto for “reporter” Robin Schwartz, a dhimmi Jewish panderer to extremist Muslims and a hack gossip writer for the local far-left Jewish newspaper rag.

Well, they got what they wanted because Gov. Snyder pulled the deal off the table. As I always note on this site, this is the kind of thing the people of Detroit get excited about–any perceived slight by the evil White man who is foolishly trying to help them. And, yet, the non-stop violent crime–rapes, murders, and more–all over the city gets hardly a peep out of ’em. Sad. But, hey, priorities, my friends. Priorities.

Question: And not being racist, just pointing out facts and statistics, but has any black country or populace as a collective whole, been proven as a race of people, been able to effectively run a legitimate democracy or government anywhere?

On a side note, my friend’s father was recently beaten and robbed of his social security money by a bunch of black thugs outside of Detroit. His father is 85 years old.

When is the last time you heard of a mob of whites beating an 85 year old black senior citizen?

Agreed, and along these lines, Colonialism has been savagely criticized, for, among other things, racism and paternalism.

Granted there were excesses, and inappropriate brutality, but all and all, part of the motivation was that the people in these colonies, partly, but not exclusively black, were incapable of running their own affairs. Some former colonies are doing quite well, e.g. India and other Asian entities, just as some immigrants, again, from India and Asia are doing well.

So gradations need to be made, but as Ajax suggests, there have historically been real problems with Blacks running their own affairs. Africa, and here in the US. Black control of the Black Community schools. What a mess!

An objective public policy would need to take these things into consideration, but a country in decline such as the U.S., of course, will not.

If you want to know where Detroit or large parts of the US are headed, look at Zimbabwe.

Unless the law in Michigan is different than everywhere else i am familiar with I don’t get it.

In most (all?) states the state legislature can enact an agreement like this and the city must accept it whether they like it or not. Under Michigan law, can the city actually block this? That seems strange.

It is really depressing to hear these people speak. They talk about it being “racist” and “disrespecting” the people of Detroit because they can clean the island up just as well as “whitey” can.
The problem is they haven’t done it and the prospects of them ever cleaning the place up seems pretty slim. Their attitude is that “it used to be a nice place but we didn’t want to take care of it. But even though its ?ucked up we don’t want whitey coming here and fixing it because they might actually want to use it.

Ever notice that when you drive through the “hood” and see a nice beemer or a benz parked on the street, invariably there will be a broken tail light or a smashed fender or something that makes you say to yourself, ‘seems like they can afford the $ down but not the $up…keep? Just ruins the whole look.

The year was 1972- I was in a junior in high school. I was sitting in the principal office along with my buddy, on the verge of being suspended for the only time in our lives. The reason: “misconduct!” Ohhhhhh!

However, the why was intriguing! We replicated walking down the hall- like the “black kids had done previously,” and yet, the authorities didn’t even bother to lift a finger towards them.

To make a long story short, we were given a 3-day suspension: but, not before learning that we actually “knew better” by the vice-principal. Since 1972?

Incredible that the city can not maintain and supervise this island and yet when someone (Michigan State Government) is willing to fix, upkeep, improve the facilities and buildings on the island, racism comes into play. The racism is clearly from the blacks, whites that have an leftist agenda and that is that since they can not fix a problem, then no one will be allowed to fix it. These people think that they “are sticking it to the Man” and tell their minions the same lie. I bet if Mr. Obama was willing to do the same then it’s alright because he is black.

By the way, I do remember Debbie posting a video that one of the city council members, a woman, did say in a council meeting that Mr. Obama, right after the election, needed to “pay up” since he received a majority black vote of Detroit.

I do feel pity for the few Detroiters (of any ethnicity) that are level headed, clear thinking, that are still in Detroitand having to suffer with this stupidity.

Disgusting,the entire affair. I had a “discussion” with two fellow employees, who were libtard detroiters, some years ago. A local black talk show host raving about the conspiracy of whites coming back and taking detroit over. They were listening intently, and nodding approvingly. I was not into the whole white guilt thing. I openly laughed and sneered as I informed them that they were totally insane if they thought that he was right. Their hateful gazes spoke volumes so I played along and continued laughing. I told them that damn, they figured it out! Ever since I was 5 years old I wanted to march back into the city of detroit, and set up residence. It was my life long dream! How did they figure it out? Laughing at them got my point across and began a lengthy silent treatment. I wouldn’t go to a casino, a ball game, or anything unless I absolutely had to. I’ve heard a lot of nice old Belle Isle stories, not too many nice new ones though.

I cannot agree with your statement,

The crime is a constant focus of the news and the citizens of Detroit are crying out for it to change. Citizen groups can only go so far. Leadership needs to change or the leaders here need to start making real progress.

There has been a failure of Detroit government to handle the crisis that the city faces. The cause is the exodus and the revenue that goes with it. The citizens can be blamed for putting the government in place that is inept at dealing with the challenges it faces. I hope enough citizens learned that “give a brother another chance” is a risky path to take.

Yes, there are some racial prejudices at play in the city. I think the leadership, though inept, knows that embracing those prejudices will not help the city out of its crisis.

I grew up in Wyandotte in the 50’s & 60’s, and haven’t been back in 40 years now. This story made me think of a 1000 things I haven’t thought of in a long time. I believe Belle Isle was designed by Olmstead, same guy who did central Park, the Chicago 1893 Exhibition, etc. Say the name “Belle Isle” and I instantly flash on a million memories: canoe riding with girls in the Summer and Ice skating in the winter..the aquarium with the electric eel..the beautiful fountain at the south tip of the island.. fantastic FREE concerts on the lawn presented by the full-on 106 piece Detroit Symphony, Sexton Erling conducting..the Gold Cup hydroplane races near the bridge–do they still do that?..there’s even some great lore my dad told me about Houdini supposedly being lowered from the Belle Isle Bridge into a hole in the ice, handcuffed in a chest, and nearly dying..and I believe the original B.I. Bridge in fact burned down, except for one little section which they later floated down river and used as a bridge between a couple of the little islands, like Hickory island, that are adjacent to Grosse Ile (this is my hazy memory of what my dad’s hazy memories were, so I guess y’all better fact check me on this one, okay?)

Yes, Joe. The hydroplane races still take place. Belle Isle is also the site of the Detroit Grand Prix and other events. From Wiki, “A design for the island was created in the 1880s by Frederick Law Olmsted, a prominent urban park designer; only some elements of his design were carried out.”

Interesting and missed elsewhere in the article or comments, the island was originally called Hog Island. I surprised someone did not point out that the old name should be resurrected.

Sorry, but this just came to me–remember the two submarines that used to be docked down by the B.I. bridge? You could tour them. I also seem to remember a rather impressive greenhouse on the island. And I seem to remember a horrific “Monkey House” where the monkeys were behind a big Glass(?) that they threw their shit at. Well, actually they threw it at the people coming to visit them. Re the Detroit Grad Prix, Belle Isle’s windy roads are perfect. I used to drive them late at night in my ’60’s vintage sports cars. We’d always stop off at the Big Boys on E. Jefferson right by the bridge there…Had no idea memories of Belle Isle took up so many brain cells….

Pre- 1967 The Detroiters that built all of the wonderful things in Detroit, belle isle, regional water dept.fantastic downtown that was alive and vibrant. Then the 67 riots happened and the people that built all of the wonderful things,HAD to leave.
What was left behind, was neglected and trashed.
The occupants of detroit today had nothing to do with building all of those wonderful Detroit things. Even though they claim it as if they did all the work.

Detroit is a city of dung beetles who have made a de facto “reservation” of the place. They are so busy being territorial about the excrement, they overlook the fact that they are eating it while the “racist whites” who were successfully driven off by the squalor, violence, despair and corruption are eating fillet mignon someplace else. A Pyrrhic victory at best. This will never improve as long as attempts to improve it are characterized as “racist”. While the imbeciles on the City Council deserve the squalor they so carefully crafted, there are others in Detroit who had the misfortune of being born there, un-educated there and un-employed there who might have had a future had they been born in America. But America is vanishing faster than a mud hole in the dry season. Glad I saw it in my youth.
