Deb, like you I defended numerous juvenile defendants. Not once, not a single time, did I ever see a father at trial. Not a single one of these defendants had a mother who was MARRIED to the father. Not once was the father LIVING with the mother.

In the case of the adult perps, virtually all had children out of wedlock. A few of their kids had already died due to lead or steal poisoning while involved in the drug trade (shot or stabbed to death).

Where did I practice criminal law? In Washington, DC (the DC stands for District of Crime).

So, while I was defending these people, (and this was during the height of the drug wars in DC), I go to synagogue, where the speaker was a Washington Post reporter who had the tenacity to state that the drug dealers were the best and the brightest black children!!!! Having known the best and the brightest, whose parents were married and professionals, and who went to Ivy League schools, I found this nonsense objectionable. Most were so dumb, they could not count, which led to shortages when they paid their drug lords, hence the high rate of death. This was the end result of one parent unwed homes.

A few years ago I read an article mentioning a Christian pastor who had been involved in jail ministry with male inmates for over thirty years, and he said that one thing they ALL had in common is that they either hated their fathers or didn’t have a father in their lives. Fathers do make a difference, despite what feminist propaganda says otherwise.

You can carp all you want about “fatherlessness,” but the unspoken and more important issue here is race: This is American black culture writ large. Seventy percent or more of all black births in the U.S. now are out of wedlock. As for the 20 percent or so of non-Hispanic white births out of wedlock, data show they turn out better than their black counterparts.

Pukey Liberals like to think not caring about stable, loving two parent MARRIED homes does not matter but that is because most don’t know what urban black families look like now and the instability and the craven way of life. This is very important issue for me. As a black man who grew up in a single parent household I have seen both sides. I was blessed with a great mom who while divorced from my dad took real charge of myself and my brothers. By the grace of God we all turned out to be good and productive citizens. That sadly is not always the case. I’ve seen blacks kids without Dads have to deal with abuse and neglect on an unimaginable scale. Did you know that 1 in 3 black boys whose father is not in the home turn out to be into drugs, gangs,in jail or dead before they reach the age of 25. Black girls wind up being a Bristol Palin or Halle Berry without the fame and fortune. Irresponsible “babydaddies” like Torii Hunter, Dwayne Wade and Terrell Owens do a great disservce to hard working black fathers like myself who are doing the right thing in regards to their wives and children. Just look at what’s happening to “little” Darius as a prime exmaple. The traditional familiy in general and the black familiy in particular is under assault in this country from virulent liberalism. This is why for the life of me I can’t understand why blacks vote in lockstep with the party of the NAACP, the KKK, FDR, LBJ, Byrd, Clinton and Obama.

First off Debbie, you should probably get you facts straight before you write a story about someone. For instance Torii isn’t the name given to him by his mother, and two of his boys are twins so idk how there could be 4 different mothers, please explain that to me. Also, I don’t condone rape at all but it’s pretty ridiculous that would write something like this about his son who is “ACCUSED” of rape. All too often a kid is accused of rape by a girl in an attempt to receive money, especially considering his father is a millionaire. I’m sure you wrote something similar when promising USC football commit Brian Banks was convicted of rape and sent to prison for 5 years all bc the “victims” mother wanted to sue the school. Or even College baseball player Garrett Wittels was once again “accused” of rape by 2 girls because their father wanted to receive a large sum of money. Before you go convicting Hunter, research the custody issues.

I have a hard time imagining that these four women were victims who had to submit to Hunter–must have been some relationship there–

You don’t say whether Hunter has abandoned these children or whether he is precluded by court custody order. You just imply it.

Yeah, Hunter might have sinned, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a Christian–it shows he has the courage to step up to the plate and admit his sins. Do we know whether Hunter actually abandoned these children as you imply,? Or has a family court system limited his visitations and time in order to give mother’s more money for more time?

I think your article is very judgmental and opinionated–why don’t you do a little research and try to write a more balanced story instead of committing “journalism fraud”–marketing your own opinion with half truths. Your article lacks depth and integrity.

I think you really should do your research before you create judgmental opinions. You are entitled to your opinion but ALL families have issues. Because Torri Hunter is a public figure we make the mistake of thinking that having millions excluded one from dealing with the problems of simply living.
On a bright note, the Hunter’s are a positive influence in the Prosper community. Torri is very involved in the development of the community I.e. charity events, support for local business and local little league promotions are a part of his busy life.

Please, let’s try to be more postive in our privilege to write/blog.
