Meet the Newt-Bashing, Anti-Israel Islam-Pimpers for Romney
Over the last week, the Romney campaign has been appealing to Jewish Republicans by farming out Romney moderates with Jewish heritage, including one-term U.S. Senator Norm Coleman (who recently touted the continuation of Obamacare even under a Republican administration and who partially lost his seat because he couldn’t keep his pants zipped except for when he was with his wife) and former Senator Jim Talent, who is touting the fact that he is the son of Russian Jewish immigrants, but omitting the fact that he’s now a Presbyterian with a daughter named, Chrissy. Despite these two “beacons of Jewishness” for Romney, I’ve noticed something that isn’t being marketed to Florida’s Jewish voters: that many of the prominent Romney endorsers–especially those bashing Newt Gingrich–are lobbyists and supporters of Islam and the Palestinians. Some Mittwits, like John Sununu, have even gone beyond the pretense of just bashing Israel. He openly bashed Jews, too.
Last week, I told you about Elliot Abrams’ fervent work for the Palestinians, to the point that he proudly attended the pro-HAMAS/Hezbollah “American Task Force on Palestine” fundraising dinner. But it’s not just Abrams. Here are some of the other Newt-bashing Romneyites and their frightening, um, al-credentials:
* Vin Weber: When he was in Congress, he was a staunch Newt ally and a consistent supporter of Israel against the Muslim world. Now, long out of Congress, Weber has made a career as a highly-paid professional lobbyist for Muslims and Arab Muslim nations (and Freddie Mac) . . . and speaking out against Israel. Most of the countries from which he now takes oodles of money abide by the Arab boycott of Israel, including the United Arab Emirates, which pays him handsomely and which enabled the 9/11 hijackers. As the co-author of a Council on Foreign Relations book with Albright, In Support of Arab Democracy: Why and How (Council on Foreign Relations (Council on Foreign Relations Press)), Weber is a leading advocate of the Arab Spring/Arab democracy BS which brought the Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaeda, and Hezbollah to power in Egypt, Libya, and Lebanon, respectively. (But he’s probably not an advocate of democracy in the Emirates because, then, who would pay him hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying fees to live his luxe lifestyle?) As a Co-Chair of the National Endowment for Democracy (with Albright), he made the decision to spend your tax money to send the Ground Zero mosque imam and many other Muslim extremists on “goodwill” trips to the Middle East promoting “democracy.”
Even worse, Weber now serves– along with the forces behind the Ground Zero mosque and leaders of several Muslim Brotherhood groups including ISNA–on the board of the U.S.-Muslim Engagement Project, the declared aim of which is to change the attitudes of the American public toward Islam and change American foreign policy (which is always code for “let’s stop America from supporting Israel and start supporting the Muslim nations against her”). From the organization’s own website:
The project’s goals are to:
- create a coherent, broad-based and bipartisan strategy and set of recommendations to improve relations between the U.S. and the Muslim world; and
- communicate and advocate this strategy in ways that shift U.S. public opinion and contribute to changes in U.S. policies, and public and private action.
Good to know that he’s supporting Mitt Romney and attacking Newt Gingrich. Tells me a lot, as in, I should do the exact opposite. He’s doing Romney’s bidding now. He’ll get Romney’s ear and attention in the White House. You want that?
In case you needed more, Weber works on many pro-Muslim projects with ugly friend of Arafat, Madeleine Albright. He’s also lobbied for–and obtained–repeated arms deals for Muslim nations, arms deals for weapons that can, and likely will, be used against Israel.
* John Sununu, Sr.: As governor of New Hampshire, he was the only one out of 50 governors of U.S. states who refused to call for repeal of the “Zionism is Racism” UN General Assembly Resolution 3379. He also issued an anti-Israel proclamation regarding the U.S.S. Liberty (the real story about which is in an excellent book, “The Liberty Incident: The 1967 Attack on the U.S. Navy Spy Ship“). When George H.W. Bush picked him as his Chief of Staff, Sununu pretended that he was a “Lebanese Arab.” But, after that, he and his anti-Israel son and U.S. Senator openly admitted they were actually Palestinian Arabs. Once in the Bush White House, Sununu repeatedly spoke out against Israel and in favor of the Palestinians. He also attacked Jews specifically in his call for “evenhandedness” (which is also always code for “let’s bash Israel and side with the Muslims”).
A column by the late Jewish conservative, William Safire, written during the Bush-the-father era in 1991, captures only a tad of the Sununu hatred for Jews and Israel. Safire had written a previous column denouncing Sununu as a crappy Bush Chief of Staff. He didn’t mention the Israel stuff or anything else, but the Jew-baiting Sununu got his pro-HAMAS friend, Robert Novak, to write a column saying that Sununu was attacked only because he’s an Arab and anti-Israel. Ask yourself if you want for Prez, a guy who will listen to this Jew-hater.
After leaving the Bush White House and outing himself as a Palestinian, Sununu repeatedly did the Muslim lecture circuit across America, spouting more of that. You think Newt Gingrich’s strong support for Israel isn’t a factor–THE factor–in his Gingrich-bashing and Mitt support? Think again.
Then, there is Elliot Abrams, the Bush point man behind the first ever declaration by a U.S. President in support of a Palestinian State and the man behind billions of dollars going to the Palestinians to bail out their mortgages, etc. We know where none of this money really went, and you can bet some of it was very “explosive” spending.
And there are other such anti-Israel, pan-Muslim Romney pimps. These are just three examples. Ask yourself if these are the kind of people you want to have influence in a Republican White House. Mitt happens.
I certainly don’t. In a Newt White House, John Sununu, Vin Weber, and Elliot Abrams will be persona non grata, at least at this point.
I’m troubled by Gingrich’s tight friendship with Grover Norquist, but it’s apparently not as tight as it once was. I haven’t heard a peep out of Jihad Grover since Newt Gingrich correctly identified the Palestinians as an “invented people.”
And my guess is that Grover doesn’t want Newt in the White House, these days.
