Oregon Teen Murdered b/c His Name “Sounded Jewish”

By Debbie Schlussel

While you continue to hear public officials whine about “Islamophobia” (a phobia is an unreasonable fear or hatred; ours is reasonable–remember 9/11, Fort Hood, etc.?), the real religion-based phobia in this country (backed by FBI hate crime statistics) is against Jews.  Take this latest tragic story (and ask yourself:  damn, why’d they miss Whoopi Goldberg?–her name sounds Jewish!). And don’t forget that just because these Jew-hating murderers aren’t Muslim, doesn’t mean Muslims aren’t to blame. Muslims have contributed in great part to the rising tides of anti-Semitism around the world, including on U.S. soil. They have made people like these murderers feel more at ease with what they are doing. Muslims made anti-Semitism (which was, before 9/11, on the decline among non-Muslim Americans) and anti-Semitic violence hip. And never once has a single Muslim spoken out against the many Muslim anti-Semitic attacks and threats of violence I (and many others) have received on a regular basis from American Muslims.  That’s because they condone and support this stuff.

A couple charged in a three-state killing spree that left four people dead say they killed an Oregon teen because his last name sounded Jewish, according to court documents. David Joseph Pedersen, 31, and Holly Ann Grigsby, 24, were being held on $1 million bail after their arrest by California Highway Patrol officers last week.

At the time of their arrest, Grigsby also reportedly commented that the couple were on their way to Sacramento to ‘kill more Jews.’

Cody Myers: Killed b/c of Jewish-Sounding Surname
Cody Myers, 19, of Oregon was on a trip to the Newport Jazz Festival when he was reported missing. Detectives think he was killed east of Toledo in the Pioneer Mountain area.

Myers’ body was found last Wednesday near Mary’s Peak. Myers died from bullet wounds to the head and chest.

Very sad. Say a prayer for Cody Myers and his family.

And, remember, you don’t hear about any Americans going on killing sprees seeking out Muslims as targets, even though Muslims target Americans on American soil every day, every hour, every minute, and every second . . . and even though most Muslims in America openly support Hezbollah, which murdered hundreds of Americans.

Chilling story. Thanks for reporting this, Debbie.

Muslims have done what was not thought politically possible after WWII – they’ve made Judeophobia fashionable once again, so that now, in addition to them, even Leftists and White Supremacists don’t have any qualms about expressing their anti-Semitism a lot more publicly. And ironically, the same people who coined the phrase ‘Never again’ are ensuring the very inevitibility of the same.

Thank you, Mohammedans, and your secular dupes of all religious denominational origins!

Infidel on October 13, 2011 at 5:24 pm

Very sad indeed. One of my friends immigrated here from Hungary actually converted from Judiasm to Christianityand changed his name and his families names. When I asked him why he told me it was because of so much anti-Jewish sentiment here in the US. As sad as that sounds more Jews may want to think about takin this path – especially with nuts like the people in the above story…also it would help them identify more with main strea America.

Terrible tragedy for this kid and his family.

Not sure if DS chose her words so wisely, but here is what I do know…

We cannot allow the sickest parts of the human race, filled with anger, rage and hate, dictate our lives. We shouldnt change our names to sound less Jewish, get nose jobs =), stop wearing kippot or going to temple, we should embrace all that we are and ban together! I am Jewish and very proud, I stand with my relgion and behind Israel 100%.

I do agree that the Muslim culture has made it “tolerable” to hate Jews again, the same as Hitler during WWII. Anybody that thinks otherwise probably supports Palestine or is Muslim. And well, you cant blame the brainwashed, can you?

The Jews and the land of Israel will prevail, we have faced adversity since our beginnings and will not back down. We have overcome every time in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Our people, our nation are strong. We will survive!

    Sarah G on October 19, 2011 at 2:13 pm

I’ve been threatened, too. All you have to do is be pro-Israel these days.

A shocking crime. But hardly surprising. When its hip to hate Jews and Israel, people are going to act like its OK to take it out against them.

I can’t imagine what Cody Myers’ family must be going to through. As I always like to say our being tolerant of evil never leads to good.

And that claimed the life of an innocent young man! May G-d have mercy on his soul.

The Deep South has nothing but nothing on the Extreme North when it comes to Neo-Nazi Extremists. Note these 2 skedaddled to a place called Marysville, CA – which is up the road a bit from Northern Sacramento… which as we all know, is where the Aryan Skinhead crowd went after they were driven out of downtown Sacramento about 10 years ago. Check out international Skinhead leader David Lynch – recently murdered by one of his own in Northern Sacto. Check out the NeoNazi enclave in Corning, CA which is where they likely passed on their way to Marysville, CA – (find out all about that at the Southern Poverty Law Center maps)- home to a group/person whose name I can’t mention openly, reputedly seen to be one of the last people walking out of the Murrah building b4 the bomb went off. “This evil” is all alive and well, and well-protected I might add by elements (not everyone) in their local PD’s. You might also want to note that the rise of Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs (OMC’s) in this area, and cross-check that out with the tens of thousands of extreme bikers that suddenly appeared on the road around Labor day 2011 in St. Louis MO running drivers off the road – a show of extremist power?). OMC’s are glorified by the TV shows “Sons of Anarchy” are attracting young men and women, young families, who do not look like your (ab)normal extremists, shaved heads/tattos, no these are the nice family up the street with a 4 and a 7 year old, so nice, until you realize they are rabid members of their local OMC (call it the new modaility of a latter day KKK). Make no mistake, these link up with extremist international groups such as Southern Asatru (led by another David Pederson, ex US, now in Scandinavia) who network from Europe to Mobile AL to CA… there are thousands more like that, and they all link up using social media. Nice world we live in. Groups in the Mid East are taking advantage of this, and funding them, one in particular I tracked in Denver CO to Islamic groups in Indoneisa. They are doing this through … well, cut to the chase, watch out for Guy Fawkes day, 11/2/11, and 11/11/11, hot spots for these nasties. Eternal vigilance.

Anna on October 13, 2011 at 6:33 pm

When people cite the Southern Poverty Law Center, except to debunk it, they are giving credibility to an organization that is an evil, anti-Christian organization. They would regard millions of pro Jewish, pro Israel Evangelicals as raving anti-Semites.

We also know there was enough evidence of the link between OKC 95 and Indonesian Islamic terrorists, the link totally covered up. And don’t argue with me, I already spoke with the person doing PR for the govt for OKC 95. If they had outed all that back then, perhaps 9/11 would not have happened.

I thought Myers was an Irish name.

John Robert Mallernee on October 13, 2011 at 6:50 pm

I have Jewish neighbors with the last name Meyers. I’m guessing during the time of immigration in the 1920’s, people’s last name were changed

Matthew on October 14, 2011 at 9:58 am

John, I to think the word “Myers” is an Irish name. Just like my first name is Irish (my aunt from my father’s side gave me the name “Sean”) and my last name is a British word! Ironically, I happen to not be of european lineage, but of West Indian lineage.

Now to this story, yes it’s a sad story indeed, and this just proves and shows that anti-semitism has increased over the last number of years in this country! And I am sick and tired of the term “Islamophobia”, it’s a friggin made up term created by an islamist group in this country I believe right after the 9/11/01 attacks in order to propagandize use fear-mongering against us in the western world.

Whoopi Goldberg’s name sounds very German.

It’s really Voopi Goldberg.

dee on October 13, 2011 at 8:50 pm

So sad of you Debbie to try and blame Muslims for this when it is clear this has nothing to do with Muslims. You really have issues. Next thing you’ll be blaming Muslims the next time you trip up the your stairs, pitiful.

Blame the far extreme right resurgence in this country of which you contribute to.

Jermaine on October 13, 2011 at 10:11 pm

Nothing sad about it Jermaine, or should I say Khalid? We are well aware of how Islam feels about Jews, and the subject is definitely not a dead letter in mosques. Islam has given the West a fresh infusion of antisemitism with its migrants. If you want a figure, it is Haj Amin al-Husseini. He was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and collaborated with Hitler. Amin even did radio broadcasts out of Berlin and openly supported the elimination of Jews.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haj_Amin_al-Husseini

Or, we could discuss Sayyid Qutb, who was a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sayyid_Qutb#Visit_to_America

These were not marginal figures eating yogurt in the hills.

    Worry01 on October 14, 2011 at 7:30 am

Jermaine, you need to improve on you’re reading comphrehension skills jackass, where in this article did Debbie EVER said that muslims committed this crime? She NEVER said such stuff stupid, she mentioned who the killers are and she mentioned their names, you’re the one with the issues here Jermaine.

And you Jermaine need to blame the far extreme left resurgence in this country of which you and you’re vile ilk contributes to. And there is anti-semitism on both the far-left and far-right alike along with muslim-fanatics, simple as that!

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on October 13, 2011 at 11:11 pm

These 2 sociopaths didn’t need any “inspiration” from Muslims to commit their evil act – they’re evil Jew-haters,period.

The US is not Europe(not yet, anyway), and in my view, the bad economy, not Islam is the main culprit behind any rise in anti-Semitism.

It’s happened time and again. When the economy suffers, people look for scapegoats, and too often the scapegoats have been Jews.

This is not to say Muslims haven’t contributed, but by and large in the US, anti-Semites don’t take their marching orders or inspiration from Muslims.

In Europe on the other hand, most anti-semitism is coming from Muslims.

Without evidence to the contary(assuming the gov’t doesn’t cover it up), linking this murder in any real way to Islam runs the risk of “crying wolf” too often and causing the public to dismiss the very real Islamic threat, a la the John Birch Society accusing nearly everyone of being in a one world communist gov’t conspiracy.

Scott on October 13, 2011 at 11:33 pm

This murderous killer, Pedersen, he has been in prison for 16 of his 31 years!!

While I suspect this Pedersen character doesn’t like blacks much (investigators believe he killed a black man in Eureka, CA after killing his father and Cody Myers) is it possible he found common ground and encouragement in his Jew hatred by ‘hangin’ with jailhouse converts to islam while he was incarcerated? Just wonderin’

Kairn on October 14, 2011 at 12:45 am

The two groups don’t mingle much in the prisons I’ve worked. They sit in separate areas of the dining hall and seldom work out together. The Asatru are Pagans who worship the Norse gods. There is some limited interaction on the leadership level, in housing units and the Chapel. Of greater danger are the growing numbers of Hispanic converts to Islam- a group being specifically targeted by donations of Spanish Korans to many prisons.

EDS on October 14, 2011 at 7:20 am

Myers is a very common last name.Especially in America I’ve seen 3 different list of the most common last names in America and it always near the bottom of the top 100. While Meyers thought by many to be more common is usually listed near 150.
It is of both English and German origin but is also the last name of many Scotch,Scotch-Irish,Dutch,African-American and Czech families.
Didn’t these racist ever hang out in Anglo areas to know it’s a very common Anglo last name.I mean very common. Some people say Dead Common(haters).
I’m not aware of any Jewish Myers or Meyers but I believe Meyerson is a common Jewish name and that Judisim would be obliged to accept any geuine convert of any last name even if that last name is Pedersen or Grisby.

Are you kidding me? You’re turning this horrible crime (note my surname) into an anti muslim rant? These people were Christian fanatics! I spend a lot of time in Indonesia and have never ever been discriminated against….

Susan Myers on October 14, 2011 at 6:34 pm

Susan, did you read this entire article? Why the hell are you semi-demagoging what Debbie wrote? If you’ve been here much or a little longer, you would know where DS is coming regards the threat of islam to our shores and borders, and NO it’s NOT an anti-muslim rant as you claimed, it’s refuting the facts, etc. Let me educate you a little Susan so you won’t become a useful idiot dhimmi, muslims worldwide are KNOWN for their anti-semitism against jewish people, that is a fact Susan, it’s not rhetoric coming from myself. And you claimed that these folks are “Christian fanatics”, have they called for a so-called holy-christian war against non-christians? Or, have they committed terrorist attacks against anyone in the name of god? If any of that occured, comeback here and explain it to me and all of the readers/posters that comments here! And also, where in this article that Debbie said that muslims committed this crime? She NEVER said such stuff, she was only making a reference about muslims (not all muslims, but a good percentage of them) holding anti-semitic viewpoints and and their hatred for jewish people, that’s it!

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

    Sean R. on October 14, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Wow! You are really going out on a limb there Susan, calling Pedersen and his crappy girlfriend Christians. These two are just plain ol’ straight up EVIL.

Dontcha know, had these two encountered you in Sacramento (where they said they were going to kill more Jews) and asked you your name and you told them it was ‘Meyers’ they would have killed you too!! I would call that being discriminated against, wouldn’t you?

And you know what Susan? We don’t have anti-muslim rants here at Debbie’s blog. We have anti-Islam rants. And what does your supposedly spending time in Indonesia have to do with the above article?

Kairn on October 14, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Susan, I happen to know 2 Indonesian Jews who hide their ancestry because of the discrimination there. the last above ground synagogue was bomb years ago. currently the Jews remaining meet in seclusion and hide their Jewishness. I also have about 4 Indonesian Christian friends 2 who live in the US and 2 who still live in Indonesia and all of them share about the discrimination they have experienced in Indonesia. Were you in the small region of Monado which has a Christian majority or were you in the other 80% of the country where there is a Muslim majority. Your experience seems bogus to me.. since a simple google search will bring up several stories of Churches being burned of Christians being raped and murdered and of the last Jewish synagogue being bombed.

Adam Kratt on October 15, 2011 at 10:39 pm

muslims when convicted of murdering any infidel here or any western country should be punished here using the islamic law of their religion.

In such cases, amputations of each arm and of each leg followed a month later by a stoning to death conducted by family members of the real human this common garbage killed.

I pray and wish the best for his family, may he rest in peace. This article is very silly these to me seem like two very unrelated concepts. One could say any jewish man or woman ever killed in this country is due to muslim hate. One could say any muslim killed in this country was killed because the war in iraq made people more at ease with fighting arabic people. None of that makes any sense. The truth is for hundred upon thousands of years society has its insane people who are willing to kill and harm others because of either mental or environmental issues. I don’t see it as anything more then that…

Jonathen on October 15, 2011 at 12:43 pm

Adam Kratt on October 15, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Last time I was up there north of Portland, visiting, I saw lots of red necks. Many local churches, and home churches too. Very provincial. Also there was a racist crime being reported in the local news- two young men tied a black man to the back of their car, and dragged him to death. I knew then that it was no place for a nice jewish girl like me.

Deborah on October 16, 2011 at 9:12 pm

According to Oregon Live.com:
“The suspect in the killing of a 19-year-old Lafayette teen said in an interview published Friday that Cody Myers was not killed because she and her cohort thought he was Jewish. Instead, she said his death represented collateral damage in a white supremacist war.

Holly Ann Grigsby, 24, of Portland expressed no regret over the slaying.

She described the killings as part of a mission to further white supremacist beliefs. “This is what I was born to do,” she told the paper.”

Justin on October 17, 2011 at 10:25 am

As if we didn’t have enough problems from radical Islam, now we have our own homegrown sicko couple to worry about:

Pedersen and Grigsby appear to have shared a white supremacist philosophy. On her Facebook page, the Oregonian reported, Grigsby called her son her “little Aryan warrior.” Pedersen’s tattoos include a swastika, a “Supreme White Power” emblem and a face resembling Adolf Hitler’s.

“I see our race being wiped out and that we need to take direct action or we will be dead. … The Zionists are taking over and brainwashing without anybody knowing it,” Grigsby said in an interview with the Appeal-Democrat in Marysville, Calif.

“I don’t believe it did a whole lot, killing a child molester and a Negro. It is not going to accomplish what I want it to, but maybe it ignites a spark in somebody’s eyes … that this world will carry on what we have started,” she said. “This is what I was born to do.”

If there’s any consolation, now both of them will get the spend their rest of their lives in prisons filled with those of a racial demographic they so despise…real geniuses these two.

[“Ray” is an Arab with the last name of Nasr, FYI. DS]

Ray on October 19, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Lets get a few things straight. DS never said Muslims committed this crime. She stated that Islam has made it ok to hate Jews again (like Hitler in WWII). If you dont see this you are blind…

Amel… 1st, there is no such thing as a Jewish terrorist. 2nd Israel in its current form was founded for the Jews and when it was given the name of Israel it was occupied by the British (post WWII). Jews have lived in Israel for over 5,000, the land was thiers to start. 3rd you comment, due to lack of knowledge and inteligable refrences is therefore invalid.

Sarah G on October 19, 2011 at 2:27 pm

Gotta agree with Ray on this one. And its a shame how only the haters on this site are the ones to point this out but what is the connection between these guys and Muslims? Love ya DS and while I agree that 1) Muslims, generally, do not like Jews; 2) This is a newsworthy story, the way you use the story to rant about Muslims does come off a bit hateful and immature…..but hey I’m 32 and live at home, so go figure.

RL: RIF–Reading Is Fundamental. I explained for people like you who don’t get it that Muslims made anti-Semitism hip. There is a reason that growing anti-Semitism in the Muslim world and among Muslims in America finds allies like these two murderers. If you can’t connect these very obvious dots, this site–and common sense–is clearly lost on you. In general, dummies who can’t comprehend resort to idiocy like calling me “immature” and “hateful” because this very obvious concept is beyond their extremely limited intellect. Save it. Oh, and by the way, “Ray” is an Arab named Nasr, and probably a Muslim, too. How interesting that you agree with him. Figures. Bye. DS

Robert Lefkowitz on October 19, 2011 at 2:29 pm

Call me crazy (and a dummy with limited intellect) but I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that these two nazis killing people because they sound kinda Jewish has anything to do with Muslims or because you think Muslims made it hip to hate Jews. Since when do Muslims tell us what is hip? Only black ppl can do that! White ppl have been hating the Jews just fine without any help from Muslims. Like I said, I agree that Muslims don’t like Jews but let’s not blame them for every bad thing that happens to a Jew in the whole world.

Robert Lefkowitz on October 19, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Forgive me for failing to see the “obvious connection.” I’m sure there are more readers who agree with me but are scared of you biting their heads off. Remind me never to criticize or have my own point of view anymore and to only be a good yesman if I comment again.

Robert Lefkowitz on October 19, 2011 at 4:30 pm

I dont disagree with you Robert, but its kind of hard not to make the corelation between the two. I do believe that there are many groups that hate others that arent like them (jews, blacks, etc.) having nothing to do with Muslims or Islam and have been before 9/11. But when you speak of Jews who have dealt with hate over thier whole existance, across history that hate has come from Islam, even starting in the bible when Hagard and her son were banished form the home of Sarah and Abraham.

When society starts accepting certain behaviors, language, etc. as tolerable, this is how they connect. This is the same way Hitler was able to take over and even be in power. He got everyone to be with him or too scared to go against him. This is the same thing Islam is doing. Everyone is so scared to say “no” to Islam. They dont want to be politically incorrect, god forbid.

Sarah G on October 19, 2011 at 4:38 pm

I am not a fan of Islam, at all. And nobody should be cowed by Muslims. Speaking of the Bible, says Gd about Ishmael: “And he shall be a wild ass of a man….” but let’s not grasp at straws. It only makes ppl not listen when you have something valid to say.

Robert Lefkowitz on October 19, 2011 at 5:32 pm

ok, i’ve read through this whole back n forth, and i gotta say, this lefkowitz cat is the only one who’s making a sensible comment here.

y’know how us jews give ourselves a bad name? by badmouthing other groups of people and trying to turn every issue into the same old ‘world is full of anti-semties out to get us’ wolf-cry.

yes, these two are clearly rascist. yes, documented that this is an attack on jews. no, absolutely NO connection with Islam whatsoever. I have many Muslim friends. They bear no ill will towards Jews whatsoever. For anyone to say they are anti-islam, anti-muslim, or any other derivative of the same sentiment, they are merely fighting fire with fire. This gets us nowhere. The only popular “religions” in North American media I can think of in the past 10 years have been Scientology & Kabbulah, both passing fads that have had no real effect on society as a whole. It’s a shame that the actions by a small fragment of a completely massive worldwide religion can bring us to slap terms like ‘evil’ on the entire movement. Yes, there are muslim extemists out for blood; yes, there are christian fanatics out for blood; and yes, there are clearly even some of us chosen jews who are out for blood.

Use any excuse you want, but it’s just not cool. Call a spade a spade and rise above making the same hateful generalizations that we’ve all been victim to.
