After Schlussel Report, Homeland Security Official Cancels $225K Motivational Speaker/Picnic Event

By Debbie Schlussel

Last week, I told you about the wasteful motivational speaker and picnic event the top Department of Homeland Security official for Michigan and Ohio, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent in Charge Brian Moskowitz planned.  He made it mandatory for all Michigan and Ohio agents to travel to Livonia, Michigan on the taxpayers’ dime for three days of time-wasting, hearing a motivational speaker and spending all day at a picnic.  After my report, Abu Moskowitz was the laughing stock (as he’s often been before) at ICE headquarters in Washington.  And he was forced to cancel the picnic.

Abu Moskowitz Forced to Cancel $225K ICE Picnic/Motivational Speaker

I learned that, because of my report, Moskowitz canceled this silly event (though it may still cost several thousand dollars to the $6,000-a-pop motivational speaker and deposits on conference and hotel rooms, as well as with caterers).  Moskowitz told agents and headquarters that he canceled the event for “security reasons.”  But that’s a lie.  His real reason was that it’s an embarrassing waste of money and people started to ask questions after my report.  And, I’m told, Moskowitz was also afraid that I and others were going to organize a protest outside the event and garner him negative media attention.

As I always say, sunshine is the best disinfectant.  Sadly, ICE in Michigan and Ohio remains infected with Abu Moskowitz at the top.

In any event, ICE agents are happy they will not have to attend this BS party. They’d rather be doing their jobs . . . the little of it they can still do, given Obama policy making it nearly impossible to investigate and arrest illegal aliens.

Kudos to you, Debbie. Keep chipping away at the ICEberg.

Debbie nice job party pooping. I’d like instead to see ICE round up all the Obamas who are here illegally and deliver them to the White House for a group amnesty party in the Rose Garden. They could get that Chicken Bone Saloon to cater it in honor of Uncle Omar.

Finally, some accountability, buy one must remember these are bureaucrats making these ridiculous decisions, clown bureaucrats, and ICE/HSI is infected with them, terminally, and they continue getting promoted, moving up through the ranks, no heavy lifting (as in experience) required. Once they get to these positions they want to “reinvent the wheel” by requiring agents to try something new such as “develop informants, generate criminal investigations” which is something they never did, or perhaps did do one and just milked it all the way, ingratiating themselves with the clown managers “wow, this guy is a good agent”. All one has to do is visit any ICE/HSI office some day and you will note that most agents (there are some who do their jobs) talk about going out to lunch with the boss; processing some Chipotle working illegal alien; putting in for that overseas assignment; softball game; training they put in for; getting promoted to GS-14 now that they got their senior agent 13; did you hear about agent so and so; etc., etc., etc., You never hear them talking about criminal investigations, doing there job as criminal investigators, presenting a case to the AUSA, prosecuting a case, nothing! That’s indicative of what the clown managers have created–mediocrity, agents afraid of doing their jobs, incompetence by these clown managers has created one giant, ridiculous laughing stock, bungling bureaucracy of an agency, and there are some flagship examples!

Blogs are increasingly more influential than the mainstream media.

A post by Steven Plaut in Israel got uber leftist Larry Derfner canned from the Jerusalem Post.

Similarly, Debbie’s report about Abu Moskowitz’s antics got him to cancel his unneeded conference.

Highly placed government officials do read this site. And its having an effect on them.

This growing role of the blogs will have significant effects on our life in the future with the demise of the MSM’s traditional “gatekeeper” role.

In the old days, stories like this wouldn’t be told. Now they can be.

Debbie, congratulations and keep up the good work!

When I was a cop in south oakland county I had a chief that forced all officers to attend sensitivity training regarding police interaction with the arabic community. We never were able to understand what made the arabic community any more special than the community at large.

Ha Ha…
I just love it when these “managers” get this crap shoved back in their faces.
Cancelled for “security reasons”. What a laff. Maybe “job security” reasons.
As in “I wanna keep my cushy overpaid, underworked, slopping at the public trough, job”

BilboBaggins on August 30, 2011 at 8:05 pm

This should not come as a surprise as ICE is a complete joke. ICE is just a government agency with no actual mission and a huge budget, they have to spend the money somehow.

ICE exists for the sole reason of the government being able to say they have it; ICE has no real purpose. The government should save the taxpayer’s money and get rid of ICE.

Great job, Debbie. And also excellent comments by everyone in this thread.

Kent on August 31, 2011 at 3:09 am

Unfortunately, ICE is an agency with no real mission and a big budget. As the end of the fiscal years approaches, ICE has to spend all of it’s money or risk getting less money during the next fiscal year. Thus, all over ICE there are currently crazy spending ventures going on.

ICE exists only for the government to be able to say that it has an immigration agency. As the government does not want any immigration enforcement, ICE is useless; but no on in government would ever come out and say that. As a result, ICE will always be around, burning up public monies.

He was/is an empty suit, a Marcy Forman backside-kissing pretty boy that liked to strut his stuff and show off his power while at H.Q. Glad to see he was taken down a bit.

If we know the agents are overpaid and underworked, many reasons given especially “they aren’t allowed to do their Immigration work”… But, newsflash… for HSI immigration laws are not the only laws they enforce or investigate. By now, wouldn’t some of the clown managers in charge see that? And the fact that there are literally THOUSANDS of laws on the books that the thousands of Immigration and Customs agents can investigate/enforce…so there is no reason why they are underworked, sitting at their desks surfing the internet, like the Maytag repairman waiting for the phone to ring. Where is the “leadership” and why are they allowing these agents to waste days/weeks/years filling them with mundane bureaucratic busy work? Abu Mousekiewitz was on the right track, motivate not only the agents, but also all the clown managers; get the agents out of the office, hit the streets, take risks, develop sources of information, liaison with other law enforcement, develop cases and take them to the AUSA, better still, get an AUSA on board early on in the investigation; haven’t enough of the clown managers ever done that? Or have they claimed to have done it on paper only, or they attended that school only?
They need motivation? get out of the office for starters and they will see that things have a habit of coming about, falling into place; you see things, hear things, people approach you with info.. While HSI is mistakenly playing the waiting game, waiting for someone at HQ to hiccup so they can react, be proactive. Agents should not be afraid of people “thinking you might be a cop”, YOU ARE COPS, get that ingrained, why do agents carry badges creds and guns? to lock up while processing a Chipotle worker? If anything the clown managers are the ones that need the motivation, and they should run them through a field SAC office working and completing investigations, surveillances, they need they experience, get out of HQ and into the field! If this were an IBM, Sears, Chipotle corporation and it was being run like that, they would have replaced all the manager/executives long ago. And remember “Those who can do, and those who can’t…teach.

BroMan on August 31, 2011 at 11:45 am

Broman, what are you smoking and where can I get some? ICE isn’t even a law enforcement agency. And ICE would never hold its managers accountable for lack of performance; that would make too much sense.

Remember ICE’s moto: “ICE does everything in reverse.”

King David on August 31, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Way to go, Debbie! Your influence grows! Keep it up!

Louis on August 31, 2011 at 11:16 pm

Those who have posted about managers never having done criminal casework and yet getting promoted are exactly right. We have 14s in ICE OPR who didn’t do squat while in OI and yet got rewarded with 14s. We have operations managers being promoted to their positions from field offices who NEVER did a criminal case ever, yet because they did some collateral duties pretty much full time got promoted. We have CBP IA agents who have 14s because they worked with the RAC who brought them over when it came time for them to return to OI. These people NEVER did a criminal prosecution. Their resumes were cut and paste position descriptions. The system is broken and it is just going to get worse.

always amazed on August 31, 2011 at 11:47 pm

The kid SAC of Los Angeles must be a friend and protected by the same one who takes care of Moskowitz. No one is sure if he has ever conducted an investigation, because instead of helping the agents get resources to build good cases, he rearranges everyone. This is a HQ trick – spend time rearranging staff, so you can claim you are “making changes.”

Apparently, he recently bought a bunch of new furniture and a big screen Apple computer while his agents have to beg for paper and other supplies.

HUH? I guess you haven’t heard about the “bed checks” where Abu and friends walk around and check to make sure all the agents are at there desks by 8:30 AM “where they’re supposed to be”. If the agent is there at *:30 AM and 5PM for the last bed check they are great agents in management’s mind. FREE PAPIN!

BadIce on September 1, 2011 at 8:09 am

BroMan: What are you smoking, and where can I get some? First, and foremost, ICE is not a law enforcement agency. Secondly, ICE does not want its agents going out and conducting investigations. ICE has the lowest standards for investigators in the federal government for a reason–they want people who have no self motivation, no ability/capability, and people who realize that they will never get paid like they are anywhere else. The result is an unproductive workforce that is totally obedient to management.

King David on September 1, 2011 at 1:29 pm

Naw man, you want some of that shit THEY’RE smoking, and have been for years, although Immigration brought in a more potent smoke in after the merger, look at how they are convinced that they are “special agents” processing, and getting rated on, how many “wets” they process in a year; you do know some of them (immigration) have had melt downs when they had to do real criminal investigations and surveillances, and have put in CA-1’s when they got paper cuts from all of those a-files they were handling, they got nervous breakdowns because for the first time in their career they werent sitting at a desk. Whatever it is they are smoking it is more potent than LSD, they are all hallucinatin’. You right, they aint no law enforcement agency now, they a processing bureaucratic agency, legends in they own mind. You want som of that shit they be smoking!

BroMan on September 2, 2011 at 12:44 pm

Let’s not forget they have no motivation because they’re overrun with legacy customs pukes who are all about their empires and not enforcement of any kind. I’m tired of hearing all about their great dope investigations, superior skills, yada, yada. Their only superior skills are in smoking pole, kissing ass, and screwing people who don’t drink the koolaid.

Debbie: MOST EXCELLENT JOB shoving back in their face!!!! Kudos!!!

IceNoMore on September 6, 2011 at 3:30 pm

“…superior skills…” yeah, heard all that shit before, immigration was so great at chasing down “wets” 30-40 at a time and single handedly sending back to Mexico, because after all that’s where they from, and when the quota was filled the DD had the “special agents” process green cards. Then Customs “took over” and messed everything up, now there was a little concept called “due process” and all the “wets” had to be “served” papers, and special agents did criminal investigations, not administrative processes, agents went to criminal investigator training and did agent work, evidence had to gathered and accounted for; immigration clerks got letters from the DD stating that they are now “special agents”. Immigration management fought tooth and nail to maintain their little administrative, bureaucratic fiefdoms, that is until they realized that GS-13’s and GS-14’s and GS-15’s could be had with none of the heavy lifting required and no experience or qualifications necessary; the result? Clown managers and agents that don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground, the laughing stock of ALL federal agencies.

BroMan on September 7, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Left in ’06 when ICE was one huge mess. Good move on my part. It’s a laughing stock in the DC area. Can’t speak for the rest of the country. Whatever happened to the head of ICE Intel who was relieved earlier this year? Can’t get any recent updates on that.

FormerICE on September 15, 2011 at 3:04 pm

Good Question – What is going on with Woosley and the ICE Intel gang who were tied into travel fraud and sending $$ overseas?
Ahmed Adil Abdallat, the ICE Intel Officer who was the first domino to fall, was supposed to enter a plea bargain deal here in Sept. However he opted to go to trial, set for OCT in El Paso. But FBI is handling that and I think ICE OPR is doing the others. If anyone else has info I know I would like to know more.

FrozenChosen on September 25, 2011 at 3:09 am

Now I know why ICE is not getting anything done. Taxpayer get aways, sex scandals, and other corrupt activities. Just like the FBI and CIA and well, all government agencies and offices.

Thank goodness there are still honest people exposing this garbage.
