Obama’s ICE: “Libyan Students in US Can Now Take American Jobs – Bend Over”

By Debbie Schlussel

Last week, I told you about the effort underway to give thousands of Libyan Muslim students asylum in the United States, including a green card and ultimately U.S. citizenship.  As I noted, we have no idea who these people are and no way to check.  We only know that they sought to come here and got a student visa allegedly to study at a college, university, or grad school.  We also know that they are all Muslim and that many of them hate us.  Well, now, the Obama Administration Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lifted all restrictions on these thousands of Libyan “students” and given them the green light to take American jobs.  Normally, student visa holders cannot hold a job or work for pay.  The reason for that is to make sure that they are here only to study and to keep them from taking jobs away from legal U.S. residents and citizens.  But, with a memo from ICE, those rules and restrictions have been discarded.  I guess we have too many jobs and not enough unemployment . . . in the eyes of the Obama-niks:

Thanks, Obama: Libyan Rebels & Qaddafi Both Happy as Libyan Aliens Now Allowed to Steal US Jobs ON US Soil

WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced special relief for certain F-1 Libyan students who have suffered severe economic hardship as a direct result of the civil unrest in Libya since February 2011. This relief applies only to students who were lawfully present in the United States in F-1 status on Feb. 1, 2011, and enrolled in an institution that is certified by ICE’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program.

ICE has published a notice in the Federal Register suspending certain regulatory requirements in order to allow eligible Libyan F-1 students to obtain employment authorization, work an increased number of hours during the school term, and, if necessary, reduce their course load while continuing to maintain their F-1 student status.

“We want to ensure that students from Libya, who were here when civil unrest began, are able to continue their studies without the worry of financial burdens due to the armed conflict,” said Louis Farrell, director for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. “The changes announced in this notice will allow eligible students from Libya to obtain employment authorization so that they can meet their basic living expenses while continuing to pursue their education in the United States.”

There has been an ongoing armed conflict in Libya since February. Approximately 2,000 Libyan F-1 students are currently enrolled in schools in the United States. The armed conflict in Libya has increased the financial burden on many of these students, who previously relied on assistance from the Libyan government or family members in Libya to meet basic living expenses. In addition, the situation in Libya has made it unfeasible for these students to safely return to Libya in the foreseeable future.

ICE manages the Student and Exchange Visitor Program and the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, which automates the process for collecting, maintaining, and managing information about international foreign students, exchange visitors and their dependents during their stay in the United States.

The Department of State has also announced special relief for certain Libyan J-1 exchange visitors who have suffered severe economic hardship as a direct result of the civil unrest in Libya since February 2011. More information about this relief is available in the Federal Register.

As I noted before, it’s bad enough we are wasting gazillions in a pointless war on Libya. Now, we also must pay the price in giving these Libyans American jobs, too? Again, it’s just like the bumper sticker I’ve seen on the beat up trucks of working-class men, regarding divorce: “the f—ing you get for the f—ing you got.”

Well, at least, Barack Obama’s “consistent” on Libya . . . sort of. He announced the reason we were bombing and at war with Libya was to help bring about the “legitimate aspirations of the Libyan people.” And since we all know that most Libyans want to live here in America, take American jobs and entitlements, and make this country Muslim like theirs is, Obama is helping hasten their aspirations.

Thanks, Barack.  Bend over, Americans.

Just keeps transforming America. Luckily, I am old enough that I wont see the end of what we knew as America. When it’s the same as the rest of the world, will immigration stop?

JeffT on June 13, 2011 at 2:20 pm

    Well, yes.

I believe it was either Marx or Lenin who said in substance that when everybody becomes the government, the government will cease to exist.

Hopefully by the time that happens, we will be dead or in diapers.

Retired old fart on June 14, 2011 at 12:48 pm

How about having the U.S. Military train each of these Libyans, issue each one an M-16 plus 1,000 rounds of ammo with a few extra magazines. This way, whatever side these guys are on, it will give a competitive advantage to that side, i.e. Qaddafi’s side will win or the Rebel side will win – repeat as necessary – in either outcome, none of OUR GUYS will be killed, Libya will still sell their oil, and all of the fuss will be over. If not, well, MOABs can handle the situation from on-high.

I am s-o-o-o tired of all this crap, aren’t you?

Dennis on June 13, 2011 at 3:07 pm

debbie the only one who sees this.

obama is a dirty lying muslim fraud! end of story! i still cant figure out why the peace prize winner is murdering and maiming people in libya? unless of course he really does want that islamist caliphate to take over.

2012 has been a year pointed at by many and for years as the worst year this earth ever had. and that is the year he will be forced out of a job he does not want to surrender.

bad things coming all because of that half-breed fraud muslim piece of work.

Dear Mr. C: You can’t be sure about “dirty” or “Moslem.”

Oh wow!? I thought he had a brain in his head. Let’s put out a red carpet for more terrorists! I agree with you entirely. He should do a spiritual house cleaning.

      Sandy P on June 16, 2011 at 10:29 am

how about sending obama to libya to fight kadafy’s troops building by building himself. the gutless half breed wimp no different than the palestinian gutless wheelchair hamas shiek sending out young boys to die.

obama makes carter look like a great president. george washington would turn over …. no, he’d come right out of his grave if he knew what has come to the prsident’s position.

Bill C. on June 13, 2011 at 3:21 pm

You know what, over the weekend I was reading a newspaper around where I live, I happend to read the “voicer-comment” section of the paper, and one person said that “we have to stop any type of immigration for a while, because the majority of the people in this country who are unemployed are US born citizens and immigrants from other nations are taking away jobs that american citizens want”. I read his comment over and over again and I had to agree what he wrote in the comment section.

Now as for Obama doing this crap on bringing Libyan youths to this country by “student visa” is plain old insane from this president. This clearly didn’t start under Obama, this has been going on for years and decades, I remember Bush did the samething during his reign on bringing in Iraqi refugees and Iraqi youths by student visas. I to think that we have to end student visas in this country, because we don’t know what these youths are capable of doing, they might do some type of plot against us or they can be spies and send information back to their native country?

“A nation is defined by it’s borders, language & culture!”

    ICE = International Crap Enfarcement.

Seriously, besides not caring for the lives of its own agents, it now can’t be bothered put Americans’ welfare before that of foreigners.

As far as amnesties go, it isn’t a big deal but with nearly 10% unemployment, our government can’t seem to reserve jobs for Americans – or send the Libyans back home to find work.

NormanF on June 13, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Dennis writes, “How about having the U.S. Military train each of these Libyans, issue each one an M-16 plus 1,000 rounds of ammo with a few extra magazines.”

It’s not like either side is especially short on weaponry. Qadaffi was getting regular resupplies from Russia and Syria, according to some reports, until recently. Meanwhile (according to other reports), rebels have been selling some of the captured munitions and, with Iranian help, smuggling them to … Hamas in Gaza. Once again US fecklessness is not only making the coming war against Israel more likely, but more deadly as well.

Raymond in DC on June 13, 2011 at 5:34 pm

Well, I guess the US Government has its favorites and unfavorites. I remember not so long ago when the government decided to restrict the immigration of Jewish refugees trying to escape from Russia (late 80s and early 90s) because of the out-of-control anti-semitism in that country. But of course Muslim terrorists make better immigrants.

Little Al on June 13, 2011 at 5:58 pm

Yup. And adding 25% more to our national debt since he was elected – which stands at $14 trillion dollars.

And now a national welfare program, not for out of work Americans but for Libyans! It makes you wonder what country Obama was elected to lead.

With a great record like that, we need to bend over some more.

For Islam! As the Sultan Knish has pointed out, its a Muslims First policy.

The proof is right in what Debbie wrote about today!

NormanF on June 13, 2011 at 6:05 pm

With 9% unemployment, gas $3.84 a gallon, it seems to me one person should get that pink slip in 2013 – Barack Hussein Obama.

He isn’t looking out for us. And like the old, true and trite saying has it, “its the economy, stupid!”

NormanF on June 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm

JeffT….sad, but I could not agree with you more. I don’t how we got here, and I don’t know how we could reverse course. This country has already had one revolution, so the notion of another isn’t all that unfamiliar. Every so often, I run the filter in my pool. Where is the cancer, and how G-d can we stop it?

“And like the old, true and trite saying has it, “its the economy, stupid!””

No, it’s not “old, true and trite” – it was a dumb campaign meme thought up by that bald, squinty political strategist for KKKlinton in ’96. Yeesh.

DS_ROCKS! on June 14, 2011 at 2:33 am

It was a 1992 meme. One of the bumper stickers circulating back then about the Bush Elder was, “He still has his job. Do you have yours?”

We can ask next year why the Libyans have jobs but Americans don’t.

NormanF on June 14, 2011 at 12:28 pm

really? “Where is the cancer”?

DS_ROCKS! on June 14, 2011 at 2:34 am

Normally, student visa holders cannot hold a job or work for pay.

Does that include work-study jobs?

Miranda Rose Smith on June 14, 2011 at 6:24 am

With the ICE waiver, they can hold any Green Card job. People with tourist and business visas are not supposed to work here but in all fairness, its hard to see why ICE says students should be given a break but not them.

NormanF on June 14, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I’ll bet all those butt-snorkelers and political fellatio/anilingus artists up in ice HQ are patting themselves on the back for a job well done. Never mind all the criminal and ethical BS they pulled to get where they are; they get a pass where the troops in the field got it broke off in their a**es for innocuous crap.

Sit back and watch the fallout from this come around….

More insanity from the Obama Administration.

Tanstaafl on June 14, 2011 at 9:33 am

Debbie,

I will start by saying that when a person emigrates to a country he is in fact making a statement about how he prefers very much the culture of that country over his and his willings to amalgamate in it. This is the equivalent of converting from a religion to another religion. However in religious conversions other strenuous factors do come in the picture.

I have said once before that I was born in Egypt. I came here some 50 years ago. Believe it or not I am more attached to my USA citizenship than to any other affiliation. If I have to fight against Egypt, I will without hesitation or qualms.

The Usa is playing a high wire game. She is hoping that these people will acclimatise and then convey their experience to their mother nations and may be convert them to see the benefits of Americanization. This is a 50/50 game. It is not safe but is worth the gamble. That is what adventerous Americans feel.

I did not think that I will live to see the throne prince of Saudi Arabia meets a western female secretary of state and her westernized Moslem saudi assistant and shake hands with them and even kiss the Secretary of State. This was absolutely anathema for the Wahhabis and the Moslems as a rule. But the rule was broken. He might have went to ablute after that but that his ass that he will have to wash after shaking hands with a woman.

I admire your intelligence and humor but I also think that you are a bit tilted towards ignoring what the other side have.

G. R. SCHAROUBIM on June 14, 2011 at 10:54 am

end of the story; Libyans who fear prosecution will get asylums . end of the story

remous on August 1, 2011 at 1:43 am

@ G. R. SCHAROUBIM – if indeed you feel allegiance to the USA over your allegiance to Islam and more precisely the instillation of Islamic values to supersede our country’s Constitutional basis, then you are the exception rather than the rule. Plus, I would bet that you are lying.

Just like one might encounter a friendly, playful Cane Corso who knows his own strength and the fear he instills in others might be possible, but I’d still never let my kid assume that all Cane Corsos are friendly dogs until proven otherwise. That would be idiotic.

DS_ROCKS! on June 14, 2011 at 6:40 pm

The Libyan students in the USA are on a scholarship by their country. We pay our fees and cost of living from funds from our country through the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) which is just a mediating organization to look after the Libyan students’ academic progress. . We are not asking for your jobs or charities; we simply ask to defreeze 45 billion dollars Libyan money frozen by the American administration so we can get our monthly allowance and pay the university fees. The There are about 2000 Libyan students, who are F1 visa holders. We are not immigrants or intend to stay in the USA neither they are Libyan- Americans, neither we are here to interfere with your believes or promote ours. , rather we are here for graduate programs or English Language Learning, as there are Americans in many parts of the world in different academic programs, who I don’t think neither interfere with other people’s believes or promote theirs. Again We ARE sponsored by our country and we do not need the American money or jobs, just release our frozen assets and we will be thankful. Above all, the work permission issued for us is valid up to December 2011 and you know that applying for a job in your country takes months even for the Americans, so by that time the job is available, if any, the license will be expired.

A Libyan Student in the USa on June 15, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Thank you for being civil in your response. I hope, in any future responses here or in other Blogs, you will remain so. Now, I ask you to, please, speak with your fellow Libyan students to ask them to renounce, as well as yourself, this religious jihad / condemnation of all who are not Islamic. Muslims, if they actually want credibility, must talk openly to each other about stopping the violence against non-Muslims.

      Will YOU do this?

Dennis on June 16, 2011 at 10:04 am

But, but, but are they islamonazis? Wouldn’t that put Americans in danger?

Blanket idiocy is Hussein O’s modus operandi.

John P on June 16, 2011 at 2:59 am

This is a joke, right?

Mary on June 16, 2011 at 4:01 pm

The rampant fear and ignorance here is amazing. Every single muslim is against us? Every student is here to steal jobs? Guess what, if these are jobs that are open legally, then they can’t undercut on wages or working illegal extra hours. These people are being given the opportunity to make a living, and America citizens still have every opportunity to apply for those same jobs.

DS_ROCKS!, your mistrust and bias is staggering. For a group of people who profess to love America so much, you are quite willing to throw away the ideals that built it, to provide a thin false wall of security for your own fearful life. Liberty requires acceptance and risk.

“All men are created equal” and “Innocent until proven guilty” are not just for Americans. Deal with it or leave.

cody rhodes on June 16, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Why should they be able to get assistance that native students aren’t able to get? My son couldn’t get a loan because he had an unpaid medical bill; he had to move home and now he can’t find a job or continue school. My daughter and her husband haven’t had good, steady jobs since graduation (he graduated 18 months ago;she graduated this spring)and now her loans are coming due. It costs as much in Illinois to go to the U of I as I make in a year. Our kids are coming home to live because they can’t finish school and make a living. Maybe they should go home to live if they can’t finish school. We have violence here, too; just last week our home was visited by intruders who stole our stuff, but what’s more that that, they took our peace of mind and security, too.

Leann on June 16, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Did you actually read the article? There is no aid. It doesn’t exist. You read it wrong or just ignored the facts to push your agenda. All this does is allow them to apply for jobs, which they may or may not get on their own merits. The more capable applicant should get the job.

Mike on June 16, 2011 at 9:03 pm

“Mikey”…get your head out of the sand. What will happen here is that, even though these jobs will be above board, the Libyans will get the nod because they’ll be viewed as “minorities” as well as “poor students”. In this day and age of political correctness and pandering, this will be the new-age version of affirmative action….same dog, different collar. It’s not so much about reading the article as it is reading what’s between the lines. That’s how you read government policy.

On that, let me clarify that I don’t have a bigoted bone in my body…I merely call it like I see it!

IceNoMore on June 17, 2011 at 9:35 am

So, although they cannot get loans or grants, they CAN now work their way through college. While my kids cannot find even a PART time job, (one a recent grad, one in college), it seems that natural born Americans (regardless of color) are no longer a priority to the POTUS.

I know who the favorites are, and the are not sons and daughters of the American revolution, or of Cherokee or Kickapoo ancestry, with ancestors who fought with honor and courage on BOTH sides of the Civil war, or whose great grandfather received medals for his service in WWII.

americanmom on June 17, 2011 at 11:15 am

IceNoMore, there’s no incentive for anyone to hire a foreign student over an American. There is incentive to hire qualified workers. I don’t see how this is political correctness or pandering. It seems to me that many Americans these days aren’t willing to put up or shut up. You want the job? Work for it. Capitalism is economic natural selection, and many who oppose these measures and any others that don’t discriminate against immigrants want to just remove the competition.

Let’s be honest with each other here, the jobs opened up by this to foreign students isn’t law positions and CFOs of major companies. You don’t see so many immigrants working convenience stores because they stole those jobs from hard working, humble, American youths, it’s because we’ve raised an entitled generation who think that certain jobs are beneath them. The story of immigrants, whether they are middle eastern, central American or other wise stealing good jobs from natural born Americans is a myth. Our economy runs on the backs of immigrants working jobs most (not all) people born here think are beneath them.

My head is well above the sand and looking clearly at the world.

AmericanMom, if your kids can’t find work, what makes you think there are jobs out there for these other kids?

Unless you’re a Native American, you come from immigrants, each of whom was at one point considered an unwanted minority. To suddenly claim that we deserve something the new generation of Americans does not is ridiculous.

Mike on June 17, 2011 at 1:26 pm

it is hard enough with the hate in this world. we need to put as much energy into peace as we have in hate.no more people in our borders. without war. maybe without our government.

ken on June 17, 2011 at 2:24 pm

Thanks dear Americans. We no more need your jobs or financial support. We have got our assets released and our funding is restored by our government.2500 Libyan students are contributing in creating more jobs for the Americans and NOT taking their jobs. we pay our health insurance, graduate tuition and monthly allowances from our own money. So we are spending billions of dollars in the USA each year. we are bringing Dollars and not taking them. Finally I was disappointed by some commentators who probably commented without reading the article and were mislead by the title” Take American Jobs”. There aren’t any American Jobs that we would take. I ask those who showed much prejudice toward those students to come up with any statistics that would show how many Libyan students got employed or got any kind of help during their finical crisis. we are simply students who found their country in a middle of a crisis because our assesses were frozen by a UN resolution and were denied access to their assesses .We are not here to ask for American scholarships, charities, immigration, jobs, green card or anything. We are here to for education that we pay for.The Americans do not pay a single penny to us, rather we pay to all the related institutions from our own money.Libya is the Second Oil producing Country in Africa with only 5 million population. we are rich in money, but we have a dictator we has been in power for 42 years. We asked him to step down in peaceful demonstrations, but he used excessive force and killed demonstrators by hundreds. We are still struggling to oust him with the help of the international community. It may take a while, but we are determined to fight to the end and get our freedom and those students are waiting for the moment to go back and contribute to the development of new Libya. Thanks again and I ask for objectivity truthfulness from the blogger.
