Guess Which Country is Missing From American Express Map?

By Debbie Schlussel

A certain country is missing from American Express’ map and listing of the countries of the world.  Can  you guess which country it is?  Hint:  it’s the usual.  Think of Iran’s preferred map.  It’s the same (at least with regard to one particular country.  Check out below which country isn’t listed.  And, yes, American Express does a ton of business in and with citizens and tourists of that country, so there’s no excuse.

Check Out the Strange American Express Map & Country Listing . . .

Yup, no Israel. Not sure why AmEx would do this, since this will rightfully anger a ton of Israelis and other Jews. But, hey, why not please billions of Muslims, right?

American Express or Map of Hate Express? Hard to tell.

Wow, shocking, except not. Another country ignoring reality to pander to the Muslims. Glad I have Visa so Am Ex doesn’t get my business.

Faye on March 28, 2011 at 2:22 pm

Meant to say, another *company* ignoring reality, not country. Oops!

Faye on March 28, 2011 at 2:23 pm

American Express is violating the US federal boycott law to which its subject.

Outrageous and unbecoming behavior.

Good thing I no longer have membership with them!

Jews and Israelis deserve better than having the country literally erased from American Express’s corporate map.

Hate Express is more like and yup, Ahmedinejad would be proud!

The omission of that one country says it all about where the world is headed today – none too reassuring, I might add.

NormanF on March 28, 2011 at 2:24 pm

No, this time you are hatemongering. Look again at that site. Look at the bottom of the list, above the two blue buttons. It says, “Europe, Middle East, and Africa”. Isn’t Israel in the Middle East???

RS: HUH? Nice try at an incorrect correction. Look at the list. In fact, every single Mid-East country, EXCEPT Israel, is listed. The button you speak of is irrelevant and takes us to no listing of Israel. RIF–Reading Is Fundamental. DS

Rachel Stern on March 28, 2011 at 2:33 pm

    Rachel,

You are an idiot. Every country is explicitly mentioned, except ISRAEL. The anti-Semites and those posing as Jews but who are not do not consider Israel anything more than irritant in the Middle East.

Jonathan Grant on March 28, 2011 at 3:02 pm

Deb: I think we both responded to Rachel at the same time. Great minds think alike.

Jonathan Grant on March 28, 2011 at 4:10 pm

What the heck is “island”; that’s more like a descriptor for the intellect of the AmEx editor who approved the map.

Roni on March 28, 2011 at 2:33 pm

Ísland is Icelandic for Iceland, which seems to be in keeping with the use of the vernacular in listing “Norge”, “Sverige”, and “Danmark” for the other Scandinavian nations.

Islam Delenda Est on March 28, 2011 at 2:42 pm

just sent an email about it. Wont hold my breath for the response though! Will let you know the reply!

Shalom Aussie on March 28, 2011 at 2:39 pm

Thanks Shalom Aussie. I wanna hear what they say to you. I will also cancel my card.

This upside down world really has to stop. I love my Am-Ex, but it’s history once I see how they explain this outrage.

    Hooroo!

Skunky on March 28, 2011 at 5:38 pm

What is up with that?

It’s really discouraging how many cowards there are in the world, and how few are the valiant and brave.

For some strange reason, Israel comes under their UK site:

http://www.americanexpress.com/uk/seetheworld/israel.html

Norman Blitzer on March 28, 2011 at 3:48 pm

There is an American Express WWW site for Israel at https://www.americanexpress.co.il/ – but you are right – it isn’t listed in the country selection list at http://www.americanexpress.com. I will give their German representation a call tomorrow.

Christian Tauber on March 28, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Thanks Debbie for informing us on this. I sent them an email. Jordan is listed but not Israel??? I would have to imagine that AMEX does more business in Israel then in Jordan.

Ilan on March 28, 2011 at 3:49 pm

I just called AmEx, told them that I shredded their Platinum card I had and told them that as of today I will no longer be accepting their card in my businesses.

Eliezer on March 28, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Deb S.

Don’t worry. We’ve covertly taken control of the U.S. in all it’s particulars. Soon, we will be totally synonymous (but of course, like now, all key decisions will come from Tel Aviv).

Today Amex. Tomorrow the world (starting with Iran, of course)

Shalom!

Very odd indeed…

I even tried playing around with the URLs to “trick” it into giving an Israel page, but nothing came up. I also noticed there’s no Syria, Iraq, Iran, or most of Africa except Egypt, South Africa, and Mauritius…still, just given the sheer amount of Americans who do business with/in Israel, this is baffling…

Mike on March 28, 2011 at 4:10 pm

There are some Arab and Muslim countries missing, like Tunisia and Yemen. Also Syria, Iran and Iraq. That’s just off the top of my head. Probably there are others. So I don’t think Israel is singled out for exclusion in this case. It’s just not an exhaustive list.

Jason on March 28, 2011 at 5:23 pm

“Think of Iran’s preferred map.”

Iran’s preferred map doesn’t have Iran on it? Iraq? Pakistan? Libya? Syria? Yemen? Afghanistan?

Dave on March 28, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Wrong, Schlussel. You say that the AMEX list is of the “countries of the world.” No it’s not. There are 95 countries in the American Express list and there are 192 member countries of the United Nations.

Clearly, Israel isn’t the only country not listed — neither is Iran, which I imagine would not make this “Iran’s preferred map”! Nor are other countries in the Middle East. Israel’s omission may be due to unjust political reasons, but everyone’s conclusion beginning with and perhaps based on an inaccurate and incomplete posting by Schlussel wants to point at that, and only that, as the possible reason.

The way this is presented, no wonder people have made incredibly outrageous and paranoid comments such as “The omission of that one country says it all about where the world is headed today” (for goodness sake, there are only 2 countries listed in all of Africa!).

I’m interested to hear from any of you who hear back from AMEX on this.

Oraneem on March 28, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Hi.
Stumbled upon your site.
First of all – thank you for support.
Second, I made a few checks and it turned out that AmEx does not do business in Israel at all.
As a matter of fact, one of Israeli banks (Hapoalim)has an agreement with AmEx under which it can use the AmEx name and logo, but actually have no connection whatsoever with AmEx in US.
What’s more, the link that appeared in one of the comments above (www.americanexpress.co.il) is not connected in any way to AmEx web site.
So if you see an Israeli tourist with such a card, it is not real AmEx, but rather some local look alike.
Toda raba and Shalom from Israel.
🙂

This is strange as I have a Gold American Express card issued in Israel by American Express – how can we not be on the list then??

Israel Muse on March 28, 2011 at 7:41 pm

    Hi Israel.
It was not issued in Israel by American Express.
It was issued by (maybe) Poalim Express.
It bears the name and the logo, but it’s from the Mastercard group of companies, not AmEx.

Daniel on March 29, 2011 at 1:49 am

Iran is a terrorist regime run by a foul-mouthed Holocaust denier and 9/11 truther and bent on destroying Western civilization; Israel is not.

American Express does busines with the State of Israel and its citizens/ tourists, so why the hell was it left out?

Oh wait – I know, it’s the State of the JOOOOOS.

Mike on March 28, 2011 at 8:06 pm

GEOGRAPHY…Please take a look at all PLANNERS. A few years ago, I noted that TAIWAN was missing from my Shell Planner and, if memory serves, from our AMEX Planner as well. I believe each is / was printed in China. I called Shell on it and wasn’t even offered a refund. I do not order them anymore.

Don’t just complain about these things…Hit them where it hurts…IN THE WALLET.

Dennis on March 28, 2011 at 8:41 pm

Next time I get an American express request to open an account, I will tell them to go screw themselves. And why. Thanks Deb!

Occam's Tool on March 28, 2011 at 11:52 pm

This is Visa Card’s global gateway page.

Select “Israel” from the dropdown country list and click “go”. What do you get? What other countries get the same results?

FYI, there are a ton of issuers of Visa cards in Israel.

To brilliant boy Daniel, above, why is that? According to your claim, why doesn’t Israel have normal Amex cards like everywhere else? What other countries have Amex Cards “in name only”?

OY on March 29, 2011 at 2:50 am

Reminds me a little of all the corporations that did business with Hitler and Mussolini in the 30s, and as a consequence, were happy to encourage policies that barred US entry to victims of Hitler in Europe.

Little Al on March 29, 2011 at 6:21 am

Sorry, I clicked your link in the column and Israel is listed there….

Fred on March 29, 2011 at 9:59 am

Muzzie_married_ jew on March 29, 2011 at 10:08 am

Well it seems that Amex has now added Israel to the list of countries.

skzion on March 29, 2011 at 10:35 am

thanx debbie Isreal is back on the map.

i emailed amex Israel and they responded that since amex israel runs it’s own site they were not on the list wich was intended only for countries which rely on the main site.

maybe so but now we r on the map….

udi on March 29, 2011 at 12:03 pm

They put Israel back up as of 3/30/11 7:30AM

Doc Holiday on March 30, 2011 at 8:37 am

Yes, it’s there now. Maybe some Muslim web master decided on his own to redraw the map. Perhaps Debbie’s revealing this led to a correction?

Phil on March 30, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Today I found Israel right away. This reminds me of a story a few years ago about BMW listing a country called Palestine instead of Israel. It took a while for BMW to change their country list, and that may have only been for people searching from the west.

Steve Haynie on March 30, 2011 at 2:32 pm

I dont take AMEX due to thier high fees and have noticed that 99% of my muslims customers use amex..I wondered y,now i know.. IRAN isnt on the list, but then again,IRAN stands for ayran.. Hitler had alot to due with the name change.. Anybody ever wonder y hippies and libs drive VWs? a car hitler also had everything to do with? tim on September 19, 2013 at 2:11 am

New found respect for american express.

Ahmad on September 29, 2013 at 12:08 pm

Amex is accepted in Israel. I had no problem using Amex in Israel, including care hire, at the hotel, and various purchases.
