Dubai-Bye: US University’s Dubai Campus a Failure, Closes

By Debbie Schlussel

Less than two years ago, Michigan State University announced it was opening up a Dubai campus.  The aim was to propagandize students in favor of the Muslim world, particularly Dubai, which abides by the Arab boycott of Israel.  Today, the school announced the campus was a big failure, and it is closing.  So sad, too bad.

buhbyemsudubai

Dubai: The Center of Scientific Research??? HAHAHAHAHAHA!

The school developed a special website for MSU Dubai with the advertising slogan, “Dream Big.”  More like, Dream Dhimmi.  Not enough students enrolled, and multi-million pledges from Dubai’s oil-rich sheikhs never came through.  Shocker.  Muslims never break their promises, right?  Students even turned away from the enticement of lower tuition rates for Dubai study than for study in Michigan by out-of-state students.  And even hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships just for study at MSU Dubai didn’t bring students in, either.  It’s ironic that a Michigan taxpayer-funded school would waste so much money to send business and economic activity not only out-of-state, but to a Muslim nation that hosts and welcomes HAMAS terrorist arms dealers and enables 9/11 terrorist attacks, but turns away Jews.

And the failure of the school says even more than just the failure of the fraudulent marketing of anti-Semitic, intolerant Dubai as a Western paradise.  The school was heavily and shamelessly promoted on WJR, Rush Limbaugh’s Detroit affiliate by Lebanese pan-Muslim morning talk show host, Paul W. Smith, the Hezbollah apologist who got a free trip to Dubai and openly pimped the Dubai MSU campus.  Clearly, he’s past his prime and no-one cares what he has to say.  None of the aging parents and grandparents in WJR’s largely senior citizen demographic who listen to Smith’s extremely dull show were too convinced or prevailed upon their kids and grandkids to spend the semester at the site of 9/11 hijackers’ money laundering and fake IDs.  Stick a fork in it, Paul W.  You’re done.

And stick a fork in it, MSU Dubai.  Most American students don’t want to waste valuable months of their lives in greater intolerant Arabia . . . for now.  Dubai may be fashionable to the Brad Pitts and George Clooneys of the world.  But most MSU students said no thanks.  They’re not into faux “understanding.”  The marketplace decided.

Dubai-bye.  Er . . . Aleikum Salaam, bitches.

So many thoughts come to mind.

Where are all those “not with my tax dollars” people who are always complaining about U.S. grant aid to Israel? Apparently Michigan school resources being diverted to Dubai doesn’t bother them.

What about the Arabs? You’d think the attraction of an American style education would attract them to MSU/Dubai. Apparently going to an American University in Dubai defeats their real purpose of going to an American University. I mean… you can’t agitate on campus in an Arab League State and not be subjected to the typical police state response. Besides, who would Arabs agitate against in Dubai? I think that video of Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren’s speech at UC Irvine tells us exactly why Arabs don’t want to go to an American University in an Arab League State.

It also begs the question: Doesn’t Dubai have ANY half-way decent institutions of higher education? Most US universities have no need to establish schools in Israel because they have cooperative programs with Israeli Universities such that college credits easily transfer.

And let’s face it! If you’re a man and want to go away to school, what is the attraction of Dubai’s female population? Same if you’re a woman; even worse! A woman who finds a man in Dubai puts her life and limb in his hands with no state protection whatsoever. Young American adults may be dumbed down from politicized liberal public schools, but for some strange reason, they’re learning the important stuff anyway.

As an economist, I say it this way:

There’s little demand for literacy supplied by Dubai.

State universities are NOT the free market. They are public taxpayer subsidized institutions. Still it says something that no private university would follow Michigan State to Dubai. Gee, wonder why.

Oh there the market talks. And the Arab world is not particularly known as a tourism mecca or a place where bright and unoriginal thinking is encouraged. And would that happen in Dubai? Dream on! Even Inspector Tamim can’t multitask. Unlike us dhimmis.

Well, Rush has screwy commercials, I guess he might as well have screwy stations.

Michigan State ought to go back to agriculture, & stick to being Moo U.

Since some parts of Michigan have high Muslim populations, I wonder if MSU was doing stealth or not-so-stealth fundraising among Michigan’s Muslims & using this as a selling point. I’m glad that this project failed, and was not supported by the market. Hopefully the same thing will happen when other schools try this stuff, even if the economy picks up. I suspect Michigan’s poor economy also hurt this project, and Dubai’s economic troubles probably affected the project also. But poor economics seems to be a constant the way things are going.

As you’ve mentioned in other contexts, while I’m glad this project failed, I’m pessimistic for the future. They’ll try again, and with the constant dumbing down of the population, and the betrayal of the best Western values by the elite in this country, I don’t know if a stop to these things or not.

Any chance that crooked local governments like Detroit or Dearborn helped out?

“Dubai-bye!” Good one, Debbie. With that:

Na, na, na, na; Na, na, na, na; Hey, hey, hey, . . . Dubai-bye!

JeffE on July 6, 2010 at 9:59 pm

On the flip side, having an MSU campus failure in Dubai is better than having a Muslim University of Dubai here in Michigan.

mshell on July 6, 2010 at 10:25 pm

    mshell:

You’re missing the point! Dubai doesn’t have world-class universities to offer the American public. There’s no shortage of madrases here but I doubt anyone is going to get a baccalaureate degree for an in-demand profession from them anytime soon.

The UAE has nothing to offer America. They have petroleum but they can’t even get that out of the ground and transport it without the help of workers/collaborators from the industrialized countries.

It’s a racket supported by a Cartel. There’s no real substance there. They can’t produce anything of value without assistance from industrialized nations and the protection of the U.S. Armed Forces.

“Aleikum Salaam, bitches.”

You were referring to the veterinary school, right?

I_AM_ME on July 6, 2010 at 10:26 pm

Why would anyone in their right mind want to go to school in Dubai? It is practically a furnace for most of the year. Also, in order to make such a lifestyle tolerable one would have to live in air conditioned quarters. At best, it would be very much like being trapped in a large shopping mall or resort hotel, only there would be no exit. Also, with the morality statutes in force in the country, any male/female interaction of even the most innocent sort would be subject to prosecution. In short, it would be like living and studying in a minimum security prison with amenities.

This is good news (for a change).
Santa- I agree with you, especially your first 2 paragraphs in your first post.

Glad this is the outcome. I always wondered why you never pointed out the hypocrisy of MSU until now on this? How they ever thought they could locate an MSU branch in such an openly Jew hating locale –it always screamed for exposure. When I was briefly at MSU years ago, it had lots of Jewish students. Hard to figure how this was tolerated without the negative publicity it deserved.

Okay, as a former Detroiter, let’s not blame the messenger and all bag on the venerable WJR, which I believe was the first commercial radio station in the U.S., certainly one of the very first.
Secondly, I’m heartened to see that the kids at MSU (where I had a lot of college friends and a girlfriend for a while) are not a bunch of brainwashed, anti-Semites, as so many of our UC “scholars” are these days. UC Irvine appears to be the worst, but Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and UC San Diego are all “moral equivalency” universities.
Thirdly, I have never been able to comprehend how anyone in their right mind would voluntarily choose to have ANYTHING to do with one of these ridiculous Arab states. Honestly, would it be impolitic of me to say that their cultures all seem retarded to me? Is that a little too ethno-centric? I don’t know. I just know everytime I hear something about one of these places and their customs and laws, they seem retarded as hell to me.
Lastly, I really wish we could go back to the time when the world roundly ignored these braying buffoons, and when I didn’t know or hear ANYTHING about them. Out of sight, out of mind. Can we just go back to that?

DJ: Huh? WJR’s two morning hosts, Paul W. Smith and Frank Beckmann are pro-Muslim and pimp it and its extremists in Detroit every chance they get. Not only are they the messengers, they are the active, pan-Islamist conduits. Who cares if WJR is the oldest station? What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? The station sucks, and two of its three main local hosts are propagandists for Islam and terrorist groups. Wake the heck up and stop making excuses. DS

Back in the ’80s during apartheid in South Africa, investments and company divisions were pulled out, boycotts by university fund managers, diplomatic pressures applied, nauseating “we are the world” – type telethons and protests mounted to pressure for change.

Now, with muslims, who routinely and institutionally discriminate against other religions, violate basic human rights including brutal amputations, floggings, stonings and beheadings as routine parts of their judiciary, abuse women and children, advocate, and fund and support terrorism, not only are there no boycotts or outrage on campuses in schools and corporations, but we actually seek out ways to champion, empower, befreind and enrich these cultures.

How is this possible? Where is the voice outrage of the common man, feminists and the historical protector of the oppressed’s rights, the liberals?

Quorum on July 7, 2010 at 1:07 am

Well, it’s called appeasement. It means you’re eaten LAST.

What do you expect from a muzzie president? We have a bunch of loonies who want to “win the hearts and minds” of barbarians.

    It’s a dangerous world.

As goes Israel - so goes the World on July 7, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Dubai is an International fraud. A fake country, no deeper than a mud puddle. Christian, Jew hating Muslims that rob tourists while keeping the captive Islamic slaves in check. If anyone has a dime there, get it out. This disaster will last no longer than their disintegrating islands of idiotic design.

pat on July 7, 2010 at 2:33 am

Guess dubai just didn’t offer the chance at immigration and welfare fraud to entice enough students to attend. Besides, dubai is already muslim and the goal is to take down the great satan thru immigration and breeding.

The Centers for Research in the Middle East are Hebrew U and the Technion.

Hope MSU never tries a stupid thing like this again. What a waste of money.

Truth on July 7, 2010 at 12:32 pm

My niece was offered a full ride to attend the University of New York’s satellite campus in Dubai this year. They were hand selecting kids from all over the US to go there for their new campus outreach program. She replied “offer me a full ride to attend here in the states and I’ll consider it.” They never did get back to her.
I guess the failure of the MSU campus hasn’t reached their desk yet, or maybe they’re just taking over where MSU failed.

perception of truth on July 7, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Hey Debbie:

The last time I was in Detroit was 1977, okay?

SCREW WJR!! Death, in fact, to WJR!

Sorry about the misunderstanding….

PS On top of all the other problems in Detroit, this is your talk radio, huh? Honest to god, girl, I do not know how you guys can take the aggravation.

Dr Joey on July 8, 2010 at 1:24 am

Seriously? Jews can’t visit Dubai? That’s news to me, I went last year. Get your fucking facts straight, Schlussel – ISRAELIS can’t visit Dubai (and even that’s not wholly accurate nowadays). Jews can visit ANY country in the Middle East (though I would be a bad Jew if I didn’t say that we’re not safe in all of them…but the UAE? Nope, tons of Jews there).

full of crap on January 6, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Full of Crap: Bring a mezuzah? Asked about your religion? Volunteered it?

You couldn’t: The only recognized religions in Dubai are Hindu, Christian, Muslim.

They care about money, and if you don’t advocate Judaism, you should be fine, I suppose. For now. Any synagogues there though? No? Gee.

Full of Crap is what you are. Scumbag. You cannot be a practicing Jew in Dubai.

    Occam's Tool on June 30, 2011 at 10:17 pm

what a hateful article, full of racist undertones towards muslims. Get out of you southern US incest infested town and write about something that actually matters to the world.
