Dhimmi Brit Bands Cancel Israeli Concerts; But Rihanna, Other Bands Still Making Israeli Dates

By Debbie Schlussel

Call it “cultural terrorism,” as Israeli concert promoter Shuki Weiss aptly does.  ‘Cuz that’s what it is.

Rihanna Takes a Dip After Her Tel Aviv Concert

Several lame British alternative groups have canceled their upcoming participation in an Israeli music festival over Israeli soldiers defending themselves from the barbarians on the HAMAS Gaza flotilla.  The Pixies, the Gorillaz, and the Klaxons (none of whose music I would recognize or care to) canceled. They join dhimmi cowards Elvis Costello and Santana in boycotting Israel. Although they didn’t specifically attack Israel, they made their feelings known through this statement from The Pixies:

“We’d like to extend our deepest apologies to the fans, but events beyond all our control have conspired against us,” the group [the Pixies] said in a statement. The bands Gorillaz and the Klaxons have also withdrawn from the festival after the raid by Israeli commandos on a Gaza-bound flotilla. . . . After the announcement of the Pixies’ cancellation, Shuki Weiss, the promoter of the Pic.Nic festival, said in a statement, “I am full of both sorrow and pain in light of the fact that our repeated attempts to present quality acts and festivals in Israel have increasingly been falling victim to what I can only describe as a form of cultural terrorism which is targeting Israel and the arts worldwide.”

I wonder if any of these hipster frauds would just sit around and take it, if they were stabbed with knives and hit with iron pipes.  Somehow, I doubt it.

But there are some acts who are courageous and stand with what’s right and just.

Upcoming concert appearances in Tel Aviv from the likes of Elton John, Jethro Tull, DJ Shadow and Mike Patton are still scheduled to go on as planned.

Also, Rihanna performed in Israel, just prior to the HAMAS Gaza flotilla’s provocation (see the photo, above).

Show your support for these artists, by buying their DVDs and other items. If you do so through this site’s Amazon Associates account (by clicking on the book ads on the left or my favorite stuff ad on the right), you are helping this site’s continued work, as well.

I always liked Jethro Tull anyway…even more now!

Patrick on June 8, 2010 at 3:50 pm

Maybe it’s a generational thing, but I don’t know most of those who cancelled. Pity about Santana; I expected better of him. And apparently the Boss (Springsteen) has also elected not to play.

On the other hand, I read that Joan Armatrading, already there for her own show, decided to stick around and fill in for those who’d abandoned Israel (and good sense). I hear she put on a hell of a show.

And kudos to Jethro Tull. Suddenly I’m in the mood for that “Minstrel in the Gallery”.

I USED to enjoy listening to the Pixies and even though these guys a generation ahead of me, Gorillaz had some good songs. Unfortunately like the other musician I use to listen, Elvis Costello. However now that I see their pathetic attempt of protesting “injustice”, they will be eliminated out of my iTunes Library and iPod Touch. Just frees up more memory for REAL ARTISTS that are not bullied into not playing at Israel.

BRUCE wussed out!? He’s such a paragon of virtue too what with having an affair with a woman he met at the gym who looks exactly like his wife Patti… well his 2nd wife after he cheated with Patti on his 1st wife (swimsuit model from Oregon.) BRUCE has become an irrelevant old man and when he refused to perform at Gov. Christi’s inaug. b/c of politics, I’d had enough anyway. Loved him growing up but as an adult, I see he’s just a short, Limo-Libtard with a scratchy voice and the morals of an alley cat.

Moi on June 8, 2010 at 5:01 pm

I’m a fan but gave up on Bruce and U2’s Bono after they went gaga over Obama. I wish they’d take a cue from Elton John and keep politics to themselves. Elton’s liberal in the true sense of the word: live and let live. Even though he’s gay he says marriage is between a man and woman only. I wonder if the libtards are gonna give him hell for performing at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding?
I thought U2’s tribute to 9/11 was well done but find it hard to stomach Bono’s ‘coexist’ dream. With islam in the mix…just ain’t gonna happen. Say, has U2 ever played in Israel?

Wow Debbie seems like you have a new and very head over heels fan. As for those bands you mentioned, the pixies and Gorilla, I actually thought you were kidding when I read the post. Seems like they actually do exist but even if you put a gun to my head I wouldn’t be able to tell you what type of music they play or anything else. It takes a brave band or performer these days to stand up for Israel. Since I happen to enjoy the music of Jethro Tull I think I’ll shop around for a new CD. Thanks for the heads up.

kenny komodo on June 8, 2010 at 7:44 pm

Anyone else seen this hilarious drawing that mocks the stupid “COEXIST” one? Here’s a link that shows it. I don’t know anything about the site or guy who drew it though – apart from it being so funny and I agree with what it says:

Never heard of the Pixes, really?!?!?WTF?

Anyhow, maybe they just don’t think the area is safe. None of their statements actually say anything about their beliefs about the whole thing. After the flotilla thing maybe it just seems too hot to deal with. Maybe their overly concerned for no good reason but you can’t just assume that they are against Israel.

Also do start herdling the cause of Rihanna and Elton John when you’ll turn on them the first time they talk about gay rights or any other lefty idea.

Pete Bone on June 8, 2010 at 9:09 pm

I’ve only heard of the Gorillaz who were created by an old Talking Heads band member, their best song is called Dare an awesome tune. Haven’t heard from Armatrading in quite some time got alot of her old cassettes. This is just propaganda created by these groups to further demonize Isreal for protecting itself. Only those who are weak-willed and easily manipulated would participate in a boycott.

THE LORD THOR on June 8, 2010 at 9:48 pm

Dare is a good tune. Lyrics lame.

“I wonder if any of these hipster frauds would just sit around and take it, if they were stabbed with knives and hit with iron pipes.”

I rather doubt they’d be rappelling onto foreign-registered vessels in international waters with automatic weapons in the first place.

    @Paul Murray on June 8, 2010 at 10:52 pm

paint guns count as automatic weapons? I’m a gonna have to get me one of them! The thugs will be quaking in their boots next time they mess with me…YEAH!…I’m bad!…got me a paint gun, see?!!!
    Seriously, Paul…

WOW! ‘rihannna’ whatever that is, managed to actually put on a slutty ‘bathing suit’ that covered her labia and nipples, with tan lines from a different slutty bathing suit.

Should I toss now or not? or wait for later or not?

Please advise.

Abu Jihad on June 9, 2010 at 12:44 am

Let them play in muslim pig stys where they can hook up with classy guys like those Saudi perverts that jack off on the fence line of hotels while glaring at white women.

pat on June 9, 2010 at 2:42 am

Debbie if you have never heard of the Gorillaz then your is much better off. Wish I could have said that. Never heard of the Pixies and my life is better off. Not a Rhianna fan either.

One of the first things the Nazis did before sending the Jews to the camps and confiscating their bank accounts and property and firing them from the professions was to boycott Jewish stores. Now we have these boycotts of Israel, it’s Nazism for our day and age. At least the Nazis were honest about their Judenhass. These moron musos (musos tend to be none too bright) should ask themselves an all too obvious question – what position would neo-Nazis and Muslim fanatics around the world be on a boycott of any kind against Israel? And then think, what does that say about the motives of those supporting these boycotts? But of course like most people, and libtards especially, most musos are too thick to ask obvious questions.

The Pixies is an American band btw, from Boston if I remember right and a great band. I’m surprised you don’t know their music Debbie, they were hugely influential. A great band but if not anti-Semitic, a bunch of cowards. Pathetic. Are there any Jewish music journalists out there who are not filled with self-loathing and who also have a backbone, who are willing to call out this tidal wave of hatred for what it is?

Larry70 on June 9, 2010 at 2:55 am

My portable Mp3 player is already loaded with Elton John and Jethro Tull stuff, but nothing from after 1972. John’s first six albums (“Empty Sky” through “Honky Chateau”) as well as many of the Dick James demos from 1967-1969 (unauthorized bootleg recordings, but all available on YouTube) are all great stuff, but I never cared much for his more electrified teeny-bopper oriented post 1972 recordings.

The four best Jethro Tull albums also came out during this period: “Stand Up” (1969) “Benefit” (1970) “Aqualung” (1971) and “Living In The Past” (1972). Anderson began getting a bit self-indulgent after that as well.

Daniel H on June 9, 2010 at 3:08 am

If that pic is supposed to be the Gorillaz they look a lot like the Hale Bopp cultists. Also-their name is racist.

Pinandpuller on June 9, 2010 at 3:18 am

I just hope Elton John doesn’t cancel. It would be the ultimate hypocracy if he did considering that we that not only have an active gay community but have rights for gays to serve in the military, whereas the boycotters are muslim societies that would kill Elton for his lifestyle choice.

Debz gives GREAT head, I bet x

jimbob jones on June 9, 2010 at 5:52 am

Rihanna is one of those that likes top beat up men and then claim she was just abused even though she initiated it. That is good to know. She believes in beating up men and if the guy hits back to claim she was abused for no reason. That is very fair minded.

She also has a history of being physically abusive to her brother. That is terrific. That is what Israel needs.

adam on June 9, 2010 at 7:28 am

Has-beens or never weres trying to get some free publicity, like the bands that are boycotting Arizona…

Tom on June 9, 2010 at 7:59 am

Springsteen has become so sad. I remember during the 1984 Presidential elections. “Born in the USA” was huge and Reagan wanted to use it for his campaign. Bruce said “No way”. So Mondale takes this as a repudiation of Reagan and says “Way to go Bruce” and Springsteen says “I’m not crazy about you either”. I can understand his refusal to play in Aparthied South Africa but where does a Jersey boy get his affinity for child sacrificing, blood thirsty theives like the Palestinians?

Barry on June 9, 2010 at 8:53 am

When will “Americans” realize how ignorant they are? Fanatically blaming the “left” (haha), “libtards”, gay people, and so and so forth for everything wrong in the world. You can’t even see beyond your own noses, let alone analyze the complex world order we’re in. You are simply not qualified (except maybe for Barack, a notable exception in a land of barbarians).

What difference is there between an islam extremist and an extreme right, gun-toting, militiamen redneck?

The US: a country once re-populated by predating european inmigrants, now turns against the historic reality that made it possible as a country in the first place.

Israel: they bitch and moan about how they’ve always been wrongly treated by the world, yet their overly simplistic treatment of the conflict with Palestine reveals their overly simplistic, obstinate and inlolerant minds. This we must stand against anywhere in the world, not just in the Gaza strip scenario.

It is hard to be the better man in any situation. To recongnize one’s input in any mess. It’s far easier to point out to [please fill with your preferred hate group, bigot].

Ignorant America on June 9, 2010 at 11:13 am

Well done for Pixies for pulling out ! Its not cultural terrorism its cultural isolation and rightly so !. You deny the Palestinians the basic human rights then act like a sulky child when the world condemns and boycotts you. Israel cries about being wrongly treated by the world… its a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy isn’t it ! Keep being hateful and you will be hated and isolated !
Debbie give up this drivel while you are behind ! Do you even read the kind of stuff that is being said about you ! Seriously grow up and get a life !

max on June 9, 2010 at 12:10 pm

Israel has not denied the Arabs (designated “Palestinians” since 1967) their “basic human rights”. The Palestinians have traded their enjoyment of the right to life, liberty and he pursuit of happiness in favor of a bloodthirsty desire to destroy the Jewish nation. Taking measures to hold them accountable for this is not unfair. A criminal cannot complain about being denied his right to liberty because he has been incarcerated for committing a crime. A polity (the Palestinians) cannot legitimately complain for reaping the consequences of its genocidal desire to push the Jews into the sea (see the Hamas charter).

downtownrod on June 9, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Debbie, I think one angle of the boycott is reasonable. The groups that perform in Israel. Of course this doesn’t apply to the groups that go out of their way to condemn Israel. To the artists that do perform there, I send them a big Yasher Koach (a Hebraic metaphorical high-five).

A1 on June 9, 2010 at 10:39 pm

The groups that perform in Israel..face a lot of threats.

A1 on June 9, 2010 at 10:40 pm

you are a stupid cunt. all three bands have gone platinum.

Travis on June 10, 2010 at 10:06 pm

so now Pixies and Gorillaz are “lame” and the umbrella-ela-ela-ela whore is a real artist?

get a life Debbie, or rather just drop dead. whore

Thank God I’m too old to know this music. I just listened to a sample of a Pixie’s song. It’s garbage. Not missing anything.
