Epic Fail: E-Verify Employer Immigration Check Doesn’t Work

By Debbie Schlussel

E-Verify, the program touted by both the Bush and Obama Administrations to weed out illegal alien employees, fails more than 50% of the time to catch illegal aliens.  The computerized system, designed to weed out illegal alien employees, doesn’t work.

ICE Agents @ Their Last Major Raid in Bellingham, WA

That’s significant because it was used as a precursory centerpiece by both the past and current administrations in their planned “comprehensive immigration reform” a/k/a illegal alien amnesty programs.  The program has also been used by the Napolitano Department of Homeland Security to curtail current immigration enforcement by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents.

As I’ve noted previously, ICE agents tell me they have been reduced to doing nothing in the category of apprehending illegal aliens because Napolitano and her figurehead ICE chief, John Morton a/k/a “Moron,” have made it nearly impossible to arrest illegal aliens, requiring lots of paperwork, up to seven forms per alien arrest, and approval from ICE headquarters BEFORE arresting each alien.  Napolitano has focused on the failed E-Verify as a way for employers to do the work she won’t allow ICE agents to do, since she ended workplace raids and worksite enforcement by ICE agents and put those who conducted a raid in the Seattle area under investigation, themselves (for the crime of doing their jobs).

So, as the execrable Dr. Phil would say, “Howz that workin’ for ya?”  Not too well:

The Department of Homeland Security’s controversial and much-touted E-Verify program might be failing to detect one out of two illegal workers whose employment authorizations are screened, outside consultants have told the agency. . . .

An evaluation of E-Verify carried out for DHS by research group Westat found the program couldn’t confirm whether information workers were presenting was their own, and, as a result, “many unauthorized workers obtain employment by committing identity fraud that cannot be detected by E-Verify,” Westat told the department. Westat put the “inaccuracy rate for unauthorized workers” at about 54%. . . .

The research company submitted its report in December. It was posted on the Web site of Citizenship and Immigration Services but has received little public attention.

(Emphasis added.)

Read the full 338-page Westat report here.

The only way to find illegal aliens is to use HUMIT–Human Intelligence. That means, ICE agents need to be freed by ICE and DHS to do their jobs, including enforcing immigration laws and raiding employers. Clearly the computer system isn’t working.

A failure rate of more than 50% would put any legitimate business out of business. And maybe that’s why so many illegal aliens continue to remain here and take American citizens’ jobs, driving wages further down. Don’t believe the hype from Homeland Security that the bad economy has driven illegal aliens out.

Plenty of them remain . . . and 54% are seen as working legally because E-Verify failed to catch them. Incredibly, this administration continues to push for “comprehensive immigration reform” when it cannot and refuses to do even a modicum of immigration enforcement. That’s a recipe for everlasting disaster.

This isn’t new…anyone who was prior IMMIGRATION knew E-Verify was worthless. Speaking of worthless, so is ice because it’s comprised of legacy customs weenies and drones fresh out of the academy who are focused on NOT enforcing immigration law. Furthermore, ice agents won’t be freed up by management to do anything because, as you say Debbie, the fish rots from the head down.

If one counted all the hispanic people living in U.S. there would be no reason to give affirmative action to any radical groups of minorities. It seems like Anglos should claim any box for minrity status, since enforcement will not exist. I could be any color you want!

My company just went through this E-Verify program. It is only as good as the person you report to that verifies your documents. I was disgruntled to have to do this ’cause I had to prove citizenship etc to get the job 13 years ago and had to verity it again 2 years ago under another program. Useless bureacracy.

Human Intelligence is SO important…and not just in eVerify. When you get an organization full of people who put all their faith in automated processes – and leave the human factor out – you are asking for major trouble. Seen that over and over….What develops is a culture of psuedo-slackers, who pass the buck around and blame it on the system, process, other BS, etc. Like Terry above says ” it’s only as good as the person” . The best computer process, attended to by Homer Simpson, will give results no better, and sometimes worse, than Homer Simpson with a pen and scrap paper.

Outsource the damn thing to Diebold and it will work. I guarantee it. Liberals would be fuming. J.NO wants it to fail. Fits their agenda. And the federal government want more control of health than it already has?

While every candidate running for governor in California runs away from talking about illegal aliens, Stever Poizner shows he’s got brass ones. Queen Meg Whitman acts like she can just buy the governor’s seat. She won’t answer questions about illegal aliens. Kind of like Awwwwhhhnolld. Talk about EPIC FAIL. Poizner is set to throw the gauntlet against illegal aliens. Going to run commercials against illegal aliens. Pete Wilson rode to victory in 1996 running against illegal aliens as Prop 187 was on the ballot. Let the games begin.

A testing system with a 54% miss rate that catches some illegal immigrants is better than a testing system with a 5% miss rate that you don’t use and doesn’t catch anything.

E-Verify is steadily improving. The question to ask is why have they built only 200 miles of the mandated fence to specs? Not one foot is in the budget through 2011. The 9/11 Commission said to secure the border 9 years ago. The Border Patrol says for every illegal alien, drug smuggler, human trafficker or terrorist caught, up to 8 make it into the interior. Why have Obama, BushII, Clinton, Bush I and all those other traitor Senators and Representatives allowed the invasion and occupation of our country by millions of the lawbreaking dregs of humanity from the nations of the world?

Westat, a research company was hired to evaluate the E-Verify software for the Homeland Security Department to identify illegal labor cheating the system. The company stated that E-Verify missed so many illegal workers mainly because it cannot detect identity fraud. But then anybody with one brain cell in their head E-Verify is only as good as the databases it uses? Of course it not perfected yet? But then if 9 out of 10 illegal illegal immigrants slip though the US Border patrol gauntlet, according to the Arizona Tuscon sector, as that’s not 100 percent proof either? Work out those illegal alien numbers for yourself for those who are never snared? It’s millions each year. That why the tired old number of 12 million living here unrestrained, makes no sense either? Then let’s face it the border wall was carefully engineered never to work properly, giving critics tons of rhetoric information. There is supposedly two fences set-apart for the expeditious movement of the different policing agencies. The E-Verify system, the state-county-city police apprehension federal training program, the Southern border fence, Sheriff Joe Arpaio arrests undermined, the No match IRS verification letters, even ICE raids have all been compromised.

IF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT IS RELUCTANT TO ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS?
THEN ITS UP TO INDIVIDUAL STATES TO PROTECT VULNERABLE LEGAL RESIDENTS WITH IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT.

On the outside they are all seen to work for the public eye, but under the skin they are either underfunded or some other mechanism used to undermine its use. Most politicians are payed-off by the massive business sector, to allow the free movement of discount labor. E-Verify was nearly crippled from the start by Sen.Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi and nearly tabled before it seeing the light of day. Even though it slipped through, it is only funded for three years. Because of its powerful potential it needs to be a permanent program, that cannot be touched by the open border organizations. Every disreputable corporate concern is livid that legislators have allowed it to become very popular amongst honest business. Business owners who use illegal foreign labor have used every method to repudiate the use of E-Verify throughout America.

Certain Governors, Mayors, judges and other elected officials have tried to blacklist E-Verify, as monetary favors for Wall Street and a whole volume of organizations such as the Catholic church, other religious groups, unions, ACLU, La Raza and open border extremists who profit from illegal immigration. American workers, citizens and legal residents must demand that E-Verify becomes permanent, fully funded and where no business remains untouched? There should be a timetable of ICE audits and lightening raids, that can even return after a month or two. Any patriotic American can call ICE and report unscrupulous companies using illegal labor. Its the duty of every law abiding citizen or resident. That anybody hiring illegal immigrants after E-Verify can detect fraudulent documentation as the computer program in the immediate future, should go to prison as they are aiding and abetting illegal labor stealing American jobs. SO E-VERIFY REJECTS YOUR JOB APPLICATION? GO TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY AGENCY–TO STRAIGHTEN THE APP OUT? A good Example of not statewide using E-Verify is the SANCTUARY STATE OF CALIFORNIA–THE STATE IS NOW BROKE.

THE LAW SHOULD ALSO BE CHANGED MAKING ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO THE US A FELONY, instead of a slap on the wrist. Only American voters can stop these travesties of our immigration system. We don’t need anymore cheap labor, as we have 15 million of our population jobless. We need a “points System” for highly skilled imported labor. We need checks and balances so immigration lawyers cannot cheat the system. We need the 1986 Immigration law enforced, with perhaps new amendments. Tell these corrupt lawmakers in Washington and your states–WHAT YOU WANT–NOT WHAT THEIR BUSINESS BENEFICIARIES WANT? The Washington toilet must be emptied, for our own survival. Call your Representative at 202-224-3121 and demand rigid immigration enforcement.

The cost to the American people for supporting illegal immigrant families is unimaginable. Read the truth about corruption and the illegal immigration occupation of our country at NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIALWATCH, IMMIGRATIONBUZZ, RIGHTSIDENEWS & DIRECTORBLUE.

It appears that the inmates are running the asylum called ICE….

Who cares? on March 2, 2010 at 3:25 pm

Well, we’ve devolved into a complete Bizarro world; immigration enforcement helps open borders, the Education Department miseducates, the Defense Department appeases our enemies, I would like us to at least be consistent. The Welfare Department should take money away from those on welfare, especially the welfare cheaters, the Humanities Councils should phase out grants for sham artists, and the Government Civil Rights enforcement organizations should fight affirmative action. EPA should fight the global warming movement. Then, at least there would be consistency.

Little Al on March 2, 2010 at 7:16 pm

I also think the response to illegal immigration must be multifaceted. If E-Verify works at 50% efficiency it should be used while the Govt. tries to make it better. Couple that with raids, increased border security, real identity checks at hospitals, etc. etc. Any method that even adds something should be used, and combined with all other methods.

It will be a very tough fight as there is a bi-partisan consensus supporting illegal immigration.

The only really organized group against it is the Paul-ite, but they are nutty on everything else. That is why campaigns like J D Hayworth’s are so important. If he beats McCain this August, I will guarantee that lots of Republicans and a few Democrats will be fighting illegal immigration.

(I have no organizational or financial connection with the Hayworth campaign).

Little Al on March 3, 2010 at 12:45 am

Okay so let me get this straight….
The Jews have a claim to Israel because their are Jewish artifacts dating back before the Palisteins…
So the Palistiens have no right to just come in and take it
Fair enough…
So how is that the Europeans had a right to come here and take what they want but the folks that were already here, as evidenced by ruins, burial sites, etc. don’t have any right to be here?

Pete Bone on March 3, 2010 at 1:34 am

I worked on E-Verify and the issue they are bringing up is the ability of illegals to bring in forged documents that a person working at Wallyworld doing the checks cannot detect. The system is only as good as the information fed into it. As for letting Diebold do it, it is already contracted out to a similar company 🙂

We are also ramping up IDENT which is biometrics (fingerprints) of all LEGAL aliens. Once IDENT is integrated with E-Verify, if somebody comes in with a forged green card or work permit, once their prints are scanned they will get caught. However – ENFORCING this is another matter…

These systems take time to get going – there are something like 38 million sets of prints in the IDENT database today and more going in every day. The only real way of ensuring that everyone is caught is to fingerprint all CITIZENS and have everybody do the same checks – I would not stand for it and I am sure a lot of Debbie’s readers would not want to be printed.

I am as frustrated with the way DHS is run as ‘IcenoMore’

Joe in DC on March 3, 2010 at 6:47 am

You all need to learn to read a little better, except for Mr Bone for whom there is no hope. The article states that they catch 93% of applicants are correctly refused employment. Of the REMAINING 7% about half slip through due to ID theft. Seems to me we just need to ensure more people use the system

Gazzer on March 4, 2010 at 1:04 pm

what should happen is that every able american who can shoot a gun.. shoot any illegal they see in this country… then the problem would be solved.

So, if you could all put in short bulleted points the main problems about EVerify, what would you say?
